Notes from a talk given, Thursday night, March 17, by Acharya David Schneider: The Rigden This word is being used more in our literature, liturgies and iconography. Cannot understand, not accessible to divided, conceptual mind – “Rigden don’t live there.” To talk about it, it is necessary to relax your mind. Loosen your grip on your version of reality…will come closer to actual reality…this is more like poetry than anthropology. “rig” means ‘clan’ or ‘lineage.’ “den” means ‘having,’ ‘holding,’ ‘possessing.’ Together it means: “the holders of the family lineage or clan.” David begins telling a story: The Kings of Shambhala: The first King of Shambhala – Suchandra (Tibetan = Dazampa, “good moon.”) The historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, taught the king of Shambhala, Suchandra, and initiated him – “monks out!” the Buddha said. This was a teaching for lay-people. This teaching was the Kalachakra Tantra – the pinnacle of the Vajrayana – there is no higher tantra. Suchandra took the tantra teaching back with him to his kingdom (Shambhala) and made it the state religion there. This is responsible for why we cannot see Shambhala anymore. Some say it ascended entirely, some say it’s still there. [The synchronicity between the term Sanskrit term Rigden and the Mormon name Rigden, the parallel ideas of Shambhala, Zion, and the City of Enoch, and the similarities between termas, tertons, Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon are phenomenal and serendipitous, to say the least.] This is not the only religion in Shambhala [Again a very familiar Mormon idea in terms of the future Zion utopia and freedom of religion, conscience, and expression.] Seven kings later there was strife. Some didn’t want to do it anymore and bailed. It wasn’t easy to leave. The seventh King was Manjushri Yashas. He used magical persuasion and brought them back. He was called the first Rigden because he held the clan through commitment and dedication? devotion? to teachings. Before this kings were referred to as “Dharma Raja”. After that, “Rigdens.” There were 7 Dharma Rajas and 25 Rigdens. We are under the reign of the 21st or 22nd Rigden. There is a prophecy that during the reign of the 25th, things get so bad that they come out of Shambhala and “clean things up”! They pay close attention to the human realm and are very affected by it and care very deeply. The Rigden during WWII died of a broken heart! Trungpa Rinpoche talks about the Rigden fathers. There’s another meaning before that level (the kings above). The before level is the basis of Shambhala, together the whole lineage An absolute or ultimate level. A chant – the homage He who is neither beginning or end. Possesses confidence beyond words. I pay homage to the Rigden King…. [[[Wikipedia:sounds|sounds]] like Melchizedek] Part of the standard liturgy now…. “May the goodness of the Rigden King be present.” This Rigden king is not one exactly, it’s a “Rigden principle,” or absolute or primordial Rigden. An absolute level of being indivisible from the relative way of being. We’re so busy with relative that we forget – can’t feel the absolute way of being – the basis of Shambhala, where we came from. What is it that has no beginning or ending in Tibetan [no he?] referring to a level of being/mind before thought/concept. It’s happening all the time – in between thoughts “gap out.” The Rigdens are the inhabitants of the Cosmic Mirror. Before concept, primordial mind, what’s there when you let go of thoughts. It’s not possible to stop thinking – it is possible to notice thoughts and gaps between thoughts. It’s a source of character development to let go of thoughts – that’s relaxing. You can let go of any thoughts. There’s a space like an “ah” or other seed syllables. There’s an unbounded, limitless space out of which things spring all the time. This is the abode of the Rigden. This space is rich and pregnant and fertile, possessing the glory of the tiger, lion, garuda, dragon, “the five dignities.” It’s glorious with specific colors, qualitites, and power. Applicable in daily life. There is no shortcut to glory. Rigden is in charge. You have to go through him to get the glory. Spacious Open Unbounded Glorious Colored Powerful And confidence beyond words – doesn’t need anything – it’s basic goodness – it’s before any reason to be good. David tells a wonderful story about his 2 ½ year-old daughter. She asks “why” about everything. So he decided to turn the tables on her and asks her “why” about everything. Her answer to “why” (she’s German) is “just so.” Letting it in: it’s right there outside the door - glorious power, wisdom, fireworks, ice cubes, everything – whatever you want. We can’t lose it but we can ignore it. Rigden is about opening up to that – relaxing. That’s the absolute, somewhat un-manifest level. Q: Why would you address it, give it a name or rank it like a king? A: In ‘relative’ you could say ‘Queen,” in absolute you’d say ‘ruler.’ It’s this space that’s giving rise to everything in our life. It’s your ruler principle, it allows you to rule. Who’s the boss? In sitting meditation you are the boss. Manifest – kings or rulers of Shambhala. A tip or insight into visualization Q: Does the Rigden exist? A: The Rigden principle is like a strong emotion that exists in you, like hate. It has color and is so strong could be made into sculpture. You could kick it or worship it, sometimes our emotions are that tangible. You might see Rigden as a person that emanates for your own conviction. On the one hand they don’t exist, on the other hand they do. Rulership – ruling your own life. Sakyong = “earth protector,” like Rigden, but an earthly manifestation. One who has trained in these techniques of relaxing and opening. It comes down to embodying that, becoming Rigdens. The primary way of our training, meditation. Not the only way but extremely helpful. Slowed down. Sit. Can begin to notice gaps and power of the mind even when nothing is happening. Other techniques, opening to your sense perceptions and regarding them as sacred. Entrance into the Rigden principle. Not just a glass of water but being “stunned by your perceptions.” The act of perceiving without blending your perceptions together and naming it – a chair. Let that open you up instead of just closing that down. The moon and the weather and the elements are good for this. We are sensual beings. In monk training you put a clamp on your senses. Whereas on the path of Shambhala warriorship and rulership we use the senses in a different way. No need to fear, can be used for enlightenment, not to be stupid or indulgent, but really living there/senses in a sacred world. There’s a profound meaning…our Shambhala Buddhist path. Our asst. is that we should not separate religion and secular life. Our aim is that they’re completely integrated. Your spiritual life is meant to deepen your secular, your secular life is meant to deepen your spiritual – no gap. The way you do the things you do counts in Shambhala. The Arhat is the hero of Hinayana. The Bodhisattva of the Mahayana, or tantric yoga. Here it is the Rigden King or Queen [Another Mormon parallel]. Open to infinity or depth of sense perceptions. Different emphasis. Points to social engagement, community, culture. Q: Why do we close the blinds? A: Fear of the unknown. It’s a bad habit. We get comfortable in our routines and silly limiting routines. We’re afraid if we let go of those, something uncomfortable could happen. Fear of loss of reference point (normally our reference points drive us nuts.) When we let go we get glory back and it’s not personal and we don’t have to organize it. Whatever phenomena are taking place you know how to ride them. The power, not your personal power. It’s already there. Let go of self and it’s accessible. Bodhisattva acquires siddhis powers but only for the benefit of others. Before beginning or ending. Not the same as eternal. Something before the concept even of beginning or ending. Something before the concept of the teaching. Q: Is the Rigden place a place where questioning is not necessary? A: An important topic, an important talk. Q: Tell us the why and the how of our new thangka? A: The Sakyong’s job is to shape and guide Shambhala on earth. What he’s doing is to point out the things that bind Shambhala Buddhist teachings. Shaping and binding and holding the family…IS this Ridgen principle. He’s going back to the things that his father had begun. In all contemplative or religious traditions absolute_______by word or concept, always some teachings of absolute state, ways to describe it, draw it out (infiltrate?) concretely manifest reality. Your life is a spectrum. Q: What if a little Rigden principle comes in? A: Relax more. Q: Senses – the role of art and beauty. A: The artist is integrated into the Shambhala vision. Humans are dignified, worthy, deserve to celebrate their lives. Beauty, elegance, dignity are not outside us, they are our potential. An artist can call that forth for themselves and others. Trungpa Rinpoche – “we don’t have any art, we do everything the best we can.” It’s not special, just an extension of our daily lives. The wind and the water – it’s natural, you’d write a poem about it, but it’s no different than the way you’d put away the forks.

Every war against terror only leads to even more wars and more terror. Countries such as Iraq and Syria, which had no presence of the Al Qaeda, but after US-NATO interventions, these very terror organizations have taken root. Far worse and fanatical organizations such as the ISIS have now grown into veritable armies with modern advanced weaponry and thousands of foot-soldiers swarming towards the "hornets nest". In our estimation the spread of terror is directly linked to certain imperialist powers and collaborator governments, that fund, mobilize, train, provide safe havens and weapons. These terror gangs are then deployed to achieve their strategic objectives of global hegemony and control over natural resources, namely Oil and Gas. In terms of the rise of the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) the question that we must ask ourselves is that, is it possible for a terrorist organization to grow as powerful as on view, without the backing of certain nations and intelligence agencies? This is precisely what we will seek to achieve. Firstly there are 4 key regional and geopolitical reasons due to which we witness a global crisis all the way from the Middle East to Eastern Europe to the borders of Russia. In the year 2007 large Oil and Gas finds were discovered in the Eastern Mediterranean region, mainly to enrich the countries namely Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Israel and Cyprus. The volume of Gas finds for both Iran and Qatar also showed increased proportions. The battle over the competition and control of the Pipeline routes between, namely the Iran-Iraq-Syria Pipeline and the Qatari pipeline, that needed access via Syria to reach the Mediterranean coastline as both pipelines went on via Turkey into Europe. If Russia and Iran were to have sovereign control over their Oil-Gas resources which they transported via their pipelines, then Russia and Iran would effectively control up to 50% of Gas exports to Europe. Thereby creating a greater energy, financial and market integration between the European nations, Russia and Iran and thus challenging the hegemony of the USA. Russia is building the South-Stream pipeline to circumvent the Ukranian quagmire. Russia has effectively countered the Western backed Nabucco pipeline. US-Saudi-Israel axis: Also in the aftermath of the Israeli defeat at the hands of the Hezbollah led Lebanese resistance in 2006, the strategic calculus began to shift drastically, with a redirection of US policy in the region. This hinged on countering the rise of the axis of the Resistance, also referred to as the Shiite Bloc, namely Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and all the way into Palestine. With a drastic sectarian Sunni-Shiite civil war already in the offing in Iraq, the Saudis, Israel and the US began to operate with multiple common strategic objectives. The Imperial-Zionist Israeli agenda was to essentially foment religious, sectarian and ethnic divisions and civil wars, leading to the partition and balkanization of those nations, into smaller warring stateless, to be then controlled by an all powerful Israel. This strategy appears in three documents: The Oded Yinon plan of 1982. A Clean Break, Strategy for securing the realm, authored by Benjamin Netanyahu and other Zio-Neoconservatives (1996). The Project for the New American Century (1997). Post 9/11, we then had the revelation by General Wesley Clark that the Neoconservative Lobby had plans to target '7' countries in '5' years, namely Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan and ending with Iran. The ideological and strategic alliance evolved during the Bush regime when in 2007 a new doctrine, referred to as the "Redirection" emerged. It openly advocated targeting Iran, tilting the balance of power away from the Shiite Bloc that the war on Iraq had disturbed, widening the Sunni-Shia split, for a close alliance between US, Saudi Arabia and Israel. The current crisis that we are witness to, unfolded in Libya in early 2011, where now an advanced 'welfare state' has been reduced to a warring "Failed State" - due to rampaging US-NATO forces who armed the most fanatical elements amongst the Islamists, including the al Qaeda. Thus there were Iraqi fighters who fought in Libya, amongst myriad others. The heavy weapons from the Libyan war theatre were transported to Southern Turkey and smuggled across the Syrian border to be supplied to the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the Jabhat al Nusra (Al Qaeda of Syria) and other not so moderate rebels... The entire concocted narrative of "Moderate Rebels" is an utter lie, if not a poor figment of Obama's skewed imagination. On the ground the FSA, Nusra, as well as the ISIS, function together and are interchangeable. The FSA Commander Jamal Mahrouf (April 2014) stated that FSA and Nusra worked together. In June 2014, for all practical purposes the Jabhat al Nusra (al Qaeda of Syria) and the ISIS had merged together. The jihadist network created by the CIA, Saudi Intel since 1979, has now expanded to an extent where now foreign Jihadists militants, mercenaries, terrorists are mobilized from across 80 countries and include even those from many of the key Western-NATO countries, such as the USA, Britain, France, Belgium, Australia amongst others. Clearly the US has played a key role in creating ISIS, which has been accepted by Retd. Lt. Gen. Ian McInerny. And yet SeNATOr John Mcain has been photographed openly hobnobbing with the the latest version of Bin Laden, al-Bakr al Baghdadi 2.0. Haaretz (Feb 2014): Reported that the US, Saudi, Jordan and Israel were all in the process of helping the Syrian rebels plan an attack on Southern Syria. Israel has also provided direct assistance in military operations. Then PBS (May 2014) carried a report of rebels who were interviewed as stating that they were trained in secret bases in Qatar. Similar reports also exist of CIA controlled training camps in Turkey. Israel too supports the ISIS, Jabhat al Nusra, FSA and the other militant groups with camps and field hospitals in the Golan Heights, in occupied Syria. Even at this juncture, there was a $10 million price on al-Baghdadi's head, and McCain could be prosecuted for contact with a terrorist. A month prior to this meeting, al Baghdadi had already created the ISIS. The fact that the US regime is directly funding the moderate rebels, the Free Syrian Army is a stated fact of US policy. Widespread massacre and ethnic cleansing of Christians and Yezidis is the norm for the ISIS, as well as the Jabhat al Nusra, the Al Qaeda of Syria. The Saudi-Qatar-Turkish role: Also reports state that the Qataris' paid $2.5 million to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to create the ISIS and become the future Calipha. After the major gas finds in 2007, the Qatari's firstly tried to convince President Assad to abandon the Iran-Iraq-Syria (IIS) pipeline and become a part of the Qatari pipeline. Assad said that he would not betray his Russian friend and ally. Then according to Roland Dumas (ex-French Foreign Minister) in 2009, Qatar paid $10 billion to the Turkish Foreign Minister Mr. Dovutoglu, with a plan to destabilize and overthrow the Assad Government. It was also at this time his British counterparts informed him that they were in the process of sending armed fighters to Syria. (Christoff Lehmann) Leaked emails from Pentagon reports revealed by Stratfor state that, "joint US-UK training of Syrian rebel forces since 2011 to bring about the collapse of the Assad regime 'from within'." It was after the Saudi failure in Syria that more than 20,000 mercenaries were defeated by the army, that the Saudis went on a worldwide hunt and mobilized jihadists from across more than 80 countries. Finally it was on the 10th of June 2014, that the world finally woke up to the threat of ISIS, after the fall of Mosul. The ISIS were out there boasting about their tanks, anti-aircraft guns, anti-tank missiles, heavy ammunition, Humvees, helicopters - all of which they captured from the Iraqi army, which did not even put up a fight. The Iraqi army that the US had been training at great cost, collapsed along sectarian lines. ISIS openly traveling across Iraq in June 2014. Not a single drone or aerial attack by the American forces. ISIS parading a captured SCUD missile. Strangely even though the ISIS were parading openly with all their captured American weaponry, the US chose not to attack, which is against standard US Military doctrine, that calls for captured weapons to be destroyed so that they do not fall into the hands of the enemy. At that very time the US was conducting drone strikes in Pakistan, but chose not to attack ISIS in Iraq. So is Obama a weak President, or even a no-war peace loving man, who only goes to war as the last option? That is certainly not the case. Obama's strategy has been to wage war by proxy, whereby they foment civil wars and strife, whilst deploying aerial attacks and drones, even as myriad proxies groups fight the land war. This is evident across Libya, Somalia, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon and myriad other theatres of war. Then another question we are frequently asked: "Why after creating the ISIS, as you say, is the US bombing its own creation?" It's only a repeat of recent history. The US enthroned Saddam in 1963, used him against Iran and then destroyed him and similarly with the Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. Yet we tend to forget... unfortunately. Finally when the public finally begs the government to do something, a solution is proposed. This would usually mean military intervention couched in a humanitarian framework. This also leads to the reduction of freedoms in our nations and societies - Solution. Thus the ISIS has proved invaluable to the US-NATO strategic game-plan as there now exists a popular support back home to neutralize the ISIS threat that supposedly poses a threat to America. Therefore ISIS has provided a perfect alibi for the US-NATO forces to return back to the region as part of its re-colonization program. ISIS has also proved very useful in the Syrian theatre as today the ISIS does control up to 30% of territory and provides the perfect pretext for the US to invade Syria. The US-NATO allies could possibly enforce a no-fly zone in the ISIS held areas, thus preventing any role for the sovereign state and the Syrian Arab Army. As the ISIS retreats in the face of US bombing, that very territory would be handed over to the FSA and Jabhat al Nusra-Qaeda militants and mercenaries, surely with many ISIS mercenaries morphing into moderate rebels. Thus effectively partitioning Syria! The Syrian government has stated that they will not bear the violation of their sovereignty and Russia too has warned the US on this count. Entrap Russia: It was also in this very period that the Russian-US-NATO crisis over Ukraine began to emerge as a serious situation that could lead to a regional or a global war. The steps to counter ISIS are as follows: Work towards national political solutions, power sharing, constitutional democratic reforms, free and fair elections - to avoid civil wars, through regional and international mediation, whilst limiting the role of the US-EU and NATO institutions and military forces. Stop the physical routes from across the Turkish, Jordan and Lebanon into Syria. Shut down all safe-havens and camps active in Jordan, Qatar, Turkey and all other destinations. Shut down all sources of funding from Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Turkey and supply of weapons from US, Britain, France and other Western sources. Support the Governments battling this terror plague with satellite and intelligence reports so that the Army can perform better. Stop media propaganda and hate speech to stem the tide of publicity, hatred and fear. Identify and prosecute all those governments and private sources that are funding and arming terrorists so that a precedent is set. Thus the regional and the international situation is indeed fraught with danger, even as the US-NATO forces continue with their belligerence and war mongering. Swann studied at Westminster College, Salt Lake City, Utah, receiving a double bachelor’s degree in biology and art. Swann’s active participation in parapsychology research began in 1969 when he was 36 years old. During the next twenty years he worked only in controlled laboratory settings with scientific researchers. Although he lectured widely on the importance of psychic faculties and potentials, he has never publicly demonstrated his abilities. Because of his participation in hundreds of thousands of experimental trials, author Martin Ebon wrote of him as “parapsychology’s most tested guinea pig,” and Psychic News and other media often refer to him as “the scientific psychic.” During the 1950s and 1960s, because of psychic potentials partly evident in childhood, he became actively interested in occult and parapsychological literature and in a variety of novel mind-development programs which took positive approaches to the enhancement of ESP potentials. Swann early distinguished between psychic phenomenon and psychic mind-dynamic processes. He especially noticed that while parapsychology researched the existence of paranormal phenomena (such as ESP, telepathy, and psychokinesis), there was little interest in the mental processes involved in producing evidence of them. From this distinction he slowly developed unique theoretical approaches to process enhancement of psi perceptions, which was in keeping with ancient descriptions of Siddhis as found in various Eastern Yoga literature and Abraham Maslow’s developmental abilitism theories. In 1970 Swann experimented with Cleve Backster in attempting to influence plants by mental activity. In 1971 psychokinetic experiments involved successfully influencing temperature recorded in a controlled setting devised by parapsychologists Gertrude Schmeidler and Larry Lewis at City College, New York. This involved PK effects upon target thermistors (temperature measuring devices) in insulated thermos bottles at a distance of 25 feet from Swann. Swann was also the subject of experiments in out-of-body travel, or psychic perception at a distance. These took place during 1971 at the American Society for Psychical Research. They involved Swann sitting in a chair and attempting to project his consciousness into sealed boxes on a small platform several feet above his head, in which there was a target symbol completely shielded from view. Swann was monitored by electrodes that would have recorded any movement from the chair. Under these difficult laboratory conditions, Swann nevertheless scored significant successes in describing the targets. In one test he was actually able to state correctly that a light that should have illuminated the target was inoperative. There was no normal way of ascertaining this fact without opening the box. In 1972, at the American Society for Psychical Research, Swann began suggesting experimental protocols to test for the existence of mind-dynamic processes that would enhance ESP and he coined the term “remote viewing” to describe the experiments in which viewers would view a location given nothing but its geographical coordinates, which was developed and tested by Puthoff and Targ with CIA funding. Remote viewing is the practice of seeking impressions about a distant or unseen target, purportedly using extrasensory perception (ESP) or "sensing" with the mind. One of the first most remarkable experiments involved a successful attempt to influence the stable magnetic field of a super-cooled Josephson junction inside a quark detector (a complex apparatus designed to detect subatomic particles). The apparatus was completely inaccessible, being encased in aluminum and copper containers and buried in five feet of concrete. When Swann mentally visualized the hidden target, significant variations were recorded in sine waves. This PK effect was reported at a conference on quantum physics and parapsychology. On April 27, 1973, in another extraordinary experiment, Swann “visited” the planet Jupiter in a joint “psychic probe” shared by fellow psychic Harold Sherman. Swann’s drawings made during the experiment showed a ‘ring’ of tiny asteroids around the planet which scientists at the time said did not exist. The existence of the ring was later scientifically confirmed in 1979. From the first experiments, Swann was increasingly considered a very unique test subject because, at the command of the experimenters, he could reproduce and sustain the desired effects over time at a significant rate of success. Throughout the history of parapsychology, other test subjects had been temporarily or spontaneously successful. But these subjects typically suffered from the well-known “decline effect” or “psi-missing effect” which statistically erased the successes, and thus permitted skeptics to believe that the successes were due to some outside factor other than claimed human psi abilities. Ingo was also a self-taught artist who worked mostly in oil paintings. His artworks express his passion for exploring the mysteries of the Universe and recapture his visions from leaving his body, remote viewing, and seeing auras. Starting in the late 1950s with his first still life painting and continuing through to his last work of art, Cosmic Intelligence, Ingo’s art periods mirror his own journey. From student to visionary, cosmic and later metaphysical artist, Ingo’s goal was to transcend the ordinary into an art form that conveyed an advancing frontier of experience. Most books and articles written after 1973 about parapsychology and psychic matters refer to Swann’s work in some way. Many analysts of science and parapsychology generally concede that his work and the high levels of official sponsorship it obtained gradually influenced positive reevaluations of the validity of psi in human experiencing. In July 1995 the CIA declassified, and approved for release, documents revealing its sponsorship in the 1970s of a program at Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, CA, to determine whether such phenomena as remote viewing "might have any utility for intelligence collection". Thus began disclosure to the public of a two-decade-plus involvement of the intelligence community in the investigation of so-called parapsychological or psi phenomena. One of the documents released was on project “SUN STREAK” which refined the process of teaching Coordinate Remote Viewing (CRV) to the degree that individuals possessing no known “natural psychic abilities” can be taught to remote view with extreme accuracy in a relatively short time period. The training program was divided into 6 stages with each stage increasing the scope and ability of the viewer. In the document it is said that the basic theory of how CRV works is very logical and is easily comprehended even by a “non-psychic”. It goes on to explain that somewhere in the unconscious mind there exists what they label “the Matrix” which knows no boundaries or limitations and contains all information about all things. The Matrix has within it “Patterns” - think of these as points within a 3D box and these Patterns each possess and radiate their own energy. This energy is emitted in the form of a signal or “signal line” which is particular to that specific pattern. This Pattern in the Matrix has other names such as “Thought Ball” or “Gestalt”. A Gestalt can be described as the Pattern and all of its associated patterns. “Cognitrons” are a pattern product existing in the unconscious mind, created by the interaction between neurons and synapses, after either a physical or emotional event. A practical explanation of training theory and how Cognitrons apply to learning could be accomplished using the example of an athlete. An athlete practices to reach a training objective, this objective could be skill related, like a wrestling move. The move is rehearsed time and time again until it is done correctly or until significant improvement is made and then training is ended to allow for the formulation of Cognitrons in the athletes memory. These Cognitrons will enable the athlete to accomplish the task spontaneously the next time the move is attempted, the same is true of psychic training. Clarification of this growing list of terms and definitions can be accomplished by walking through the process to this point. The monitor will read the viewer a set of encrypted coordinates e.g., 31° 42’E and 20° 16’N. In very basic terms, the viewer’s Autonomic Nervous System will respond to energy produced by the “Gestalt” or “Pattern”, and this response will manifest itself on the Idiogram. It is this registration on the Idiogram that indicates that the viewer is receiving the signal line of the Gestalt. The viewer will begin receiving impressions or perceptions of the target area (site) keyed to the specific issues he is concerned with e.g., structure, terrain, emotions etc. When Speaking of “the Matrix” or of “Gestalts” and the related “Patterns”, these terms are dealing with information which exists in energy form in the unconscious mind. The purpose of CRV training was to enable the viewer to extract the information from the unconscious and bring it into the conscious mind where it can be used for whatever intended purpose. All information and perceptions drawn from the unconscious must be processed through the “limen” thresholds or the conscious mind will not be able to receive it. This transfer or passage of information is accomplished through the use of “conduits” or “channels” which permit various types of sensory information to pass through. There are a number of inhibitors called “physical inclemencies”, which shut down a viewer's ability to pass information from the unconscious to the conscious or awareness. Each viewer has only a specific number of channels of conduit available in which to pass information thru the limen thresholds separating the levels of consciousness. If inordinate numbers of these channels are clogged with other functions e.g., survival (movement), sickness, fatigue, hunger etc., then the viewer's ability to pass information will be greatly impaired. In order for a viewer to be effective the greatest number of these channels possible must be made available - viewing when sick, hungry etc. was not recommended. What has been discussed here is theory, much cannot be explained, measured or quantified to the standards demanded by the scientific community. While analytical data may not be in abundance to support this theory, session reports and historical and experimental data exist to substantiate the fact that CRV is a reality. In Swann’s book Secrets of Power, he discusses the enormous amount of discovered data, information, and knowledge out there that is avoided, forbidden, made taboo, swept under carpets, or simply trashed. He says brain researchers say that we use only ten to fifteen percent of our brains and that it’s also quite possible that we use only ten to fifteen percent of discovered knowledge. One may ask what these two somewhat unexplainable discrepancies have to do with power. Well, he says it's entirely possible that we know only ten to fifteen percent about the nature of power, and that we utilize only ten to fifteen percent of our innate powers. He wonders why a species equipped to function at higher percentages of everything should remain confined to ten percept performance. Wilkins, one of the worlds leading lunar experts before his untimely death a few years ago, was convinced that extensive hollow areas did exist inside the Moon, perhaps in the form of caverns, and that these were connected to the surface by huge holes or pits. This crater is one and a half miles across, and the opening leading down into the Moon is over 600 feet across more than two football fields laid end to end. Wilkins explains his astounding conclusion: Long ago it was calculated that if the Moon had contracted on cooling at the same rate as granite, a drop of only 180 degrees would create hollows in the interior amounting to no less than 14 millions of cubic miles. " NOTE: Would not the same apply to the cooling of the Earth? This could have applications to the Hollow Earth Theory, which proposes that, not only the EARTH, but ALL planets are formed with interiors that are essentially HOLLOW. The next largest satellite circling a planet that is anywhere NEAR that ratio is whirling around Jupiter, and it is only one-EIGHTIETH the size of its master. Because of the Moons proportionally great size some scientists have even labeled the Earth-Moon combination an actual double planetary system." Such a gravitational capture should have produced a rather elongated, elliptical orbit, instead of the nearly circular path the Moon now follows around the Earth." (OMSM) Page 64 "The Moon is a celestial freak in several other respects. Almost all other satellites in the solar system circle their respective planets in the same plane of the orbs equator. But not out Moon. Its orbit instead lies strangely closer to the Earths orbit around the Sun. Puzzled scientists wonder: Why is our Moon circling the Earth outside this usual equatorial planetary orbit? They do not know. NOTE: The more scientists look at the evidence brought back from the Moon, the more they are convinced that it was formed at some remote corner of the Galaxy, and was captured by the Earth several thousand years ago. The problem with the capture theory is that, for one, the Moon is too BIG. Secondly, its orbit is too perfectly circular, and too far out from the Earth. (If it HAD been captured by the Earth, it would have an ELLIPTICAL orbit, not a perfectly circular one.) These facts, combined with the HOLLOW and seemingly ARTIFICIAL nature of the Moon, not to mention the coincidental positioning of the Moon the positioning that makes Earth the only planet in the solar system to experience total eclipses all of these discrepancies and coincidences are just too much to accept. As outlandish as it may seem, the theory of Spaceship Moon having been altered and steered into Earth orbit by god-knows-who several thousand years ago seems to be the only one that fits all of the evidence. "Secrets of our Spaceship Moon" (SOSM) Page 191 " A new moon rose, Richard Lewis told us at the Fifth Lunar Conference in 1974. It was a planet in its own right... Such a planet had to be captured to become the satellite of the Earth. " NOTE: The fact that the Moon was once, of necessity, a planet in its own right, along with fact that evidence points to the Moon being hollow, could be an interesting piece of evidence in favor of the Hollow Earth Theory. (This theory holds that, not only our Earth, but ALL planets are formed hollow.) Therefore, the fact that the Moon is hollow does not necessarily mean that it is a spaceship fashioned by Aliens. It could simply mean that the Hollow Earth Theory is, indeed, correct, and that all planets are, in fact, formed hollow; the Moon having once been its own planet, until its relatively recent capture by the Earth. (Interestingly enough, the impossible celestial mechanics required for the Moon to be in its present orbit become much more probable if one considers it to be a hollow body. If, indeed, it was steered into our orbit by aliens however long ago, this would certainly made their job a lot easier!). Unfortunately, orthodox scientists have as much (if not MORE) trouble accepting the Hollow Earth Theory as they do the Spaceship Moon theory. Volcanic action might do it, but we have NASA's word for the fact that the Moon (on the SURFACE, at least) is seismically quiet." Complete frame HERE) NOTE: on the Moons "RAYS": The so-called "rays" that extend from and between many craters on the Moon were found by Apollo astronauts to be composed of a fine, powdery chalk-like substance. (Much like the chalk-lines laid down on sports fields.) What could be the cause of these rays? It is interesting to note that the craters with the largest ray patterns are the ones in which the most ACTIVITY has been noted. (Bright lights, artificial constructions, and spraying.) The theory that these trails of dust are caused by meteor impacts is ruled out immediately, because most craters having rays have only one or two extending from them. (Only the busy craters have many of them.) A meteor impact causes debris to be thrown in ALL directions. Even meteors hitting at an oblique angle would throw debris in a complete arc along its forward direction. So what causes the rays? It seems a strange coincidence that the bottoms of the "rayed" craters are heavily coated with the same white, powdery substance of which the rays are composed. The "rays" are beginning to look like they were made by something "tracking" the powder up out of the crater, and in a straight line to other craters. It was found by the Apollo astronauts that this powder clings to EVERYTHING, and was, in fact, a great nuisance to them, as it clung to their suits, faceplates, camera lenses, cables, etc., and even found its way into the Lunar Module, posing a bit of a housekeeping problem, as the powder lost its adhesive quality upon entering the atmosphere of the Lunar Module. Is it possible that spacecraft (UFOs?) landing on the bottom of the craters, thereby having their undersides covered by this powder, could be responsible for the tracking of this powder across the lunar surface? It would take a great number of repetitions of these trips to track a line of powder pronounced enough to be seen from many miles up. But, after all, don't planes on Earth always follow certain flight patterns? Talk to an air traffic controller, or anyone involved or interested in flying; they will tell you that there are, in fact, invisible highways in the sky that pilots MUST follow. (Not only is this the law of the FAA, it is common sense: the shortest distance between 2 points IS a straight line, and is thus the quickest path to get where you're going.) So it is entirely possible (and quite likely) that these "rays" are caused by spacecraft on the Moon. (Scientists have been UNABLE to come up with a NATURAL explanation, after all!) Now, whether these spacecraft belong to the U.S., the Soviets, or Aliens is purely a matter of speculation. I'm sure there are strong arguments in favor of each of these possibilities. You can stick something in one of these Lagrangian Points and it might stay there forever or as long as the planets do." NOTE: Could a permanent space-station (such as the ill-fated SkyLab) be placed into one of these Lagrangian Points? It would be much safer than placing one in ORBIT, where there exists a chance that its orbit will decay, and cause it to come crashing down to Earth. The discrepancy arises when it I considered that the astronaut went no higher off the surface and went no farther with each step than he would have on Earth. The slow-motion effects could not cover up this fact. This suggests that the film speed was adjusted to slow down the action to give the impression that the astronauts were lighter than they actually were. With the slow-motion effects, objects would appear to fall more slowly and the public would be convinced of the Moons weak gravity." This type of surface would have less traction than ordinary pavement. The Rover had a loaded Earth weight of 1,540 lbs. Under one-sixth gravity, only 128 lbs. of force would be required to make the vehicle slide. Therefore, in going the maximum speed of 10.2 MPH, the vehicle would begin to slide if the wheels were turned enough to make a radius of curvature of less than 84 feet. Even at 5 MPH, the minimum curvature would be 20 feet. The operator would have to be extremely careful not to make any abrupt changes in direction since a sharp turn could tip it over." The driver was doing some sand-dune-type reckless driving, with wild swerves and curves all over the place. Doesn't sound like he had much trouble with flipping over, does it? And considering that the Rover was too SMALL for effective operation at one-sixth gravity, even at LOW speeds and using EXTREME caution, something just doesn't fit here. All observations indicate that the Moon has a much higher gravity than was previously believed.) (MGTE) Page 79-80 "Charles Duke (Apollo 16) evidently had a difficult time on the Moon. He fell a number of times and a series of photos appeared in many newspapers which showed him stumbling and falling... Since objects would take nearly 2-1/2 times longer to fall in one-sixth gravity, Duke should have had plenty of time to catch himself. It is even more surprising that Duke fell as OFTEN as he did considering that he was wearing the most advanced, updated Moon suit which supposedly provided him more flexibility than any astronaut before him." Close analysis of this film shows that the flag billowed and waved when the astronauts were not touching it or even close to it. At the end of the flag ceremony, as one of the astronauts moved away from the flag, it began to wave back and forth. In an apparent attempt to mask any further display of an atmospheric wind, both astronauts blocked the movie cameras view of the flag. The astronaut nearest the flag began running toward and in front of the camera while the other astronaut put his arm in front of the lens." "The Apollo 14 film (above) was ordered (by the author) in 1980 from Movie Newsreels, a company located in Hollywood, California." (MGTE) Page 104-105 "The most probable cause of a planets magnetic field seems to be the rotation of charges which are present in its atmosphere and on its surface. These charges rotate with the planet; therefore, the intensity of the magnetic field generated would be directly proportional to the planets rotational velocity. Since the Moons rotational velocity is less than 1% of Earths, is also follows that the Moons field is less than 1% of Earths." NOTE: The Apollo program DID discover that the Moon has a very feeble magnetic field. "A rotating planet can be compared to an electrical solenoid, which is a coil of wire... When a current is sent through the coil, a magnetic field is generated at right angles to the direction of the wire (the direction of the current flow). Planets carry charges with them in their atmosphere and surface and this generates electrical currents in the direction of rotation, or east-west. The magnetic field is generated at right angles to this, or the north-south direction. Even though the charges are not necessarily moving east-west relative to the surface which is traveling with them, the magnetic field is still created because the planet itself is rotating." NOTE: This is very important when applied to the Hollow Earth Theory. One of the strongest arguments of orthodox scientists against the Hollow Earth Theory has always been that magnetic fields around planets are created by a rotating mass of liquid iron, thus making the Hollow Earth Theory an impossibility. Heaven forbid they should consider an alternate theory as to the cause of the Earths magnetic field. After all, man has penetrated the crust of this planet no deeper than 5 miles (and that's if you count SONAR... actual PHYSICAL penetration is much less than this), so how do we know for certain what is at the center?) In light of the new findings (above) concerning the cause of planetary magnetic fields, the scientists main objection to the Hollow Earth Theory is removed, and the theory becomes possible; indeed, very PROBABLE. NASA photo 89-HC-431 shows the atmosphere around the Moon. (It is shown as plate #11 in MOONGATE.) (MGTE) Page 125 "It is probable that only a limited thickness of the Earths crust contributes to the majority of the Earths surface gravity die to the scattering of gravity radiation originating from masses below a certain depth. (Much the same as a stack of magnets gets stronger as you add more magnets, but only to a certain point, where the bottom magnet is not strong enough to reach all the way through to the upper layers Galt). This implies that the Earths mass cannot be accurately predicted using the conventional method. If the planets had empty or hollow centers, the surface gravity might not be much different than if they had iron cores, or even lead cores. This seems to explain why the Moon has such a high gravity for its size. Because of this effect, the conclusion is that Newtons Law of Universal Gravitation overstated the mass of the Earth in the first place." NOTE: While this argument is aimed at explaining the reason for the high gravity on the Moon, one can immediately see its importance as applied to the Hollow Earth Theory. Although many of Hitler's (and the Priesthood's) goals were reached during WW II (the creation of the UN and the migration of Jews to Israel to mention two of the goals they accomplished), the mission only took the Internationalists so far. Now is their time to ring in the 4th Reich, which will be the final One World Government. Thule Gesellschaft What follows is a description of the Thule Gesellschaft - I want to start out with the "official version" for your information before I go into much lesser known details about the society. The Thule Society (German: Thule-Gesellschaft), originally the Studiengruppe für Germanisches Altertum 'Study Group for Germanic Antiquity', was a German occultist and völkisch group [group for the people] in Munich, named after a mythical northern country from Greek legend. The Society is notable chiefly as the organization that sponsored the Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, which was later transformed by Adolf Hitler into the Nazi Party. Thule found its true purpose through the joining of societies in 1919 with the Vril Gesellschaft and DHvSS which also believed in worship of the Black Sun; but it was the psychic mediums of Vril and Thule's own resident psychic Maria Orsic that convinced them that the Aryan race didn't originate from earth but from Aldebaran in Alpha Tauri - 64 light years away. Vril also convinced the DHvSS (Men of the Black Stone) that their mountain goddess Isias was the queen of Aldebaran. The primary focus of Thule-Gesellschaft was a claim concerning the origins of the Aryan race. "Thule" (Greek: Θούλη) was a land located by Greco-Roman geographers in the furthest north. The term "Ultima Thule" (Latin: most distant Thule) is also mentioned by the Roman poet Virgil in his epic poem Aeneid. This was supposed to be the far northern segment of Thule and is now generally understood to be Scandinavia Said by Nazi mystics to be the capital of ancient Hyperborea, they identified Ultima Thule as a lost ancient landmass in the extreme north: near Greenland or Iceland. These ideas derived from earlier speculation by Ignatius L. Donnelly that a lost landmass had once existed in the Atlantic, and that it was the home of the Aryan race, a theory he supported by reference to the distribution of Swastika motifs. He identified this with Plato's Atlantis, a theory further developed by Helena Blavatsky, the occultist during the second part of the 19th century. The Thule-Gesellschaft maintained close contacts with Theosophists, the followers of Blavatsky. An important note here is that the modern Thule Gesellschaft was formed (or reformed) by Rudolf von Sebottendorf in 1918, but the Order in itself, just like Freemasonry and many other secret societies, is ancient and have survived throughout history under different names but always had the same mission and Agenda. The Thule Society has, so I'm told, a huge base in Antarctica as well, which also is the place where the secret man-made UFOs are taken into space. They even have plans to make Antarctica a sovereign state in the near future, a state outside of the One World Government. The Vril Society, in control of Vril Power, and the Thule Gesellschaft are tightly interwoven. The Vril Society is actually the Inner Circle of Thule and they work with the U.S. Government and have done so since the end of WW II when German Thule and Vril members were secretly moved over to the United States in a project called "Operation Paperclip". Both Thule and Vril are using Scandinavian Gods and Goddesses as aliases within the Order, and they even have a Nordic language that the Inner Circle speaks which they have spoken on Earth for over 11,000 years. It has been passed down to each inner circle's successor. The following pretty much summarizes Thule's present view on humanity and its' future. This is what is told to the general public in Wikipedia: The Vril Society was founded as "The All German Society for Metaphysics" in 1921 to explore the origins of the Aryan race, to seek contact with the "hidden masters" of Ultima Thule, and to practice meditation and other techniques intended to strengthen individual mastery of the divine Vril force itself. It was formed by a group of female psychic mediums led by the Thule Gesellschaft medium Maria Orsitsch (Orsic) of Zagreb, who claimed to have received communication from Aryan aliens living on Alpha Tauri, in the Aldebaran system. History is telling us that the Vril Society was almost entirely based on Edward Bulwer-Lytton's fiction novel, The Coming Race. The book describes a race of men psychically far in advance of ours. They have acquired powers over themselves and over things that make them almost godlike. For the moment they are in hiding. They live in caves in the center of the Earth. So how can a group of esoteric people form a serious secret society out of a fiction book? Well, this is how it works. First of all, if we research Edward Bulwer-Lytton we will see that he belonged to The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, which in itself was (and still is) a very esoteric secret society which branched out from the English Rosicrucian Order. Being a high rank member of The Golden Dawn, Bulwer-Lytton had a lot of esoteric knowledge. What he then did was nothing new and it happens even more often today - he wrote a fantasy/fiction book! That way he got the esoteric knowledge out to other initiates in other secret societies around the world, while the common masses would read the book as pure fiction and never understand the seriousness, the symbolism and the truth that was written in it. An ingenious way of getting forbidden knowledge out in the open, but still only the selected few would understand what the information is really about. Today they do this through books, Hollywood movies, pop/rock music, fine art, pop art and more… In December 1919 a small circle of persons from Thule, Vril and the DHvSS [Die Herren vom Schwarzen Stein (German: Lords of the Black Stone)] met in a specially rented forester's lodge near Berchtesgaden (Germany). They were accompanied by the medium Maria Orsic and another medium only known as Sigrun. Maria had mediumistically received transmission in a secret Templar script - a language unknown to her - with the technical data for the construction of a flying machine. According to Vril documents these telepathic messages came from the solar system Aldebaran which is sixty-four light-years away in the constellation Taurus. Here is a short summary of messages the Vril medium had received over the years and which formed the basis for all further actions by the Vril-Gesellschaft, compiled by author Jan van Helsing, and this is very important information to be able to understand the rest - this is not science fiction, but truly what is going on in the Inner Core of Thule and Vril. I need to emphasize to the reader that even if you don't believe a word of this, it's irrelevant. They believe it and have built at least two very complicated secret societies around it - and these societies are quite powerful and influential: The solar system Aldebaran has a sun around which revolve two inhabited planets that form the empire SUMERAN. The population of the Aldebaran system is divided into the master race of "light God people" (Aryans) and several other human races that had developed by negative mutation from the "God people" because of climatic changes upon the planets. The Aldebaran star system The colored mutant races apparently are on a lower stage of spiritual development. The more the races intermixed, the lower the spiritual development of these people sank, which led to the situation that when the sun Aldebaran began expanding they could no longer maintain the space travel technology of their forefathers and could not leave the planets by their own means. The lower races, totally dependent upon the master race, had to be evacuated and were brought to other inhabitable planets. Despite their difference all the races respected one another and did not interfere with each other, neither the so-called God people nor the lower races. Each respected that the others just made their own developments [in contrast to what happens on Earth].Around 500 million years ago the "light God people" started to colonize other earth-like planets, after the expansion of the sun Aldebaran and the resulting heat had made the original planets uninhabitable. It is said that in our system they first colonized the planet Mallona (also called Maldek, Marduk or - by the Russians - Phaeton) which existed in the area of today's asteroid belt, then between Mars and Jupiter. Mars was next. [The proof for a highly developed race on Mars are the well-known face on Mars and the pyramid city which has been photographed by the Mars probe Viking in 1976. It is assumed that the master race of Sumeran-Aldebaran then also came to Earth for a first visit, witnessed by the petrified impressions of a shoe found to be about 500 million years old, and squashed under the heel a trilobite, a little crayfish that lived then upon Earth and became extinct about 400 million years ago].The Vril people thought that later, when Earth became slowly habitable, the race of the Aldebarans landed in Mesopotamia and formed the master caste of the SUMERIANS which were described as fair, white God people. The Vril telepaths also found that the Sumerian language was not only identical with that of the German and that the language frequently of German and Sumerian-Aldebaranian were almost identical. [The Aldebarans are the ones whom we call the Anunnaki]. The construction plans and the technical details that the Vril mediums received were so accurate that they led to the most fantastic idea men ever begot: the construction of a "Jenseitsflugmachine", a "flying machine for the other side" and the "Vril-Odin"! Just to try to understand how complicated the terms "good" and "evil" are and how subjective they are, Dr. W.O. Schumann of the Technical University in Munich, both a Thule and a Vril member, held a speech in the early 20th Century, a section of which is reproduced here: In everything we recognize two principles that determine the events: light and darkness, good and evil, creation and destruction - as in electricity we know plus and minus. It is always: either - or.These two principles - the creative and the destructive - also determine our technical means…Everything destructive is of Satanic origin, everything creative is divine. Every technology based upon explosion or combustion has thus to be called Satanic. The coming new age will be an age of new, positive, divine technology!~from the German SS secret archives In the summer of 1922 the first saucer-shaped flying machine was built whose drive was based on implosion (the "other-side flying machine"). It had a disk eight meters across with a second disk with a diameter of six and a half meters above and a third disk of seven meters diameter below. These three disks had a hole at the center of one meter eighty across in which the drive, which was two meters forty high, was mounted. At the bottom, the central body was cone-shaped, and there a pendulum reaching the cellar was hung that served for stabilization. In the activated state the top and bottom disk revolved in opposing directions to build up an electromagnetic rotating field. The performance of this first flying disk is not known. But experiments were carried out with it for two years before it was dismantled and probably stored in the Augsburg works of Messerschmidt. In the books of several German industrial companies entries under the codename "JFM" (for Jenseitsflugmaschine) can be found that show payments towards financing this work. Certainly the VRIL DRIVE (formally called "Schumann SM-Levitator") emerged from this machine Before the end of 1937, the RFZ-2 was ready, with a Vril drive and a "magnetic field impulse steering unit. It worked - and it would meet a remarkable destiny in 1941, during the Battle of Britain, when it was used as transatlantic reconnaissance craft, because for these flights the German standard fighters ME 109 had an insufficient range. Due to the craft's small size and experimental impulse controls the RFZ-2 could only make turns of 90, 45, and 22.5 degrees making it unsuitable as a fighter aircraft. In 1941, however, the RFZ-2 met the surface raider Atlantis in the The RFZ-2 served as a long-range spotter for the raider which would later bring mining equipment and supplies to Neu Schwabenland prior to its sinking in December 1941. This is the last known use of the RFZ-2 which due to its cramped interior which tended to heat up badly became known as the "Fliegende Heisswasserflasche" (Flying Hot Water Bottle)! These machines were based an an IMPLOSION instead of an EXPLOSION system, a technology directly developed from Maria Orsic's and her co-mediums' channeled information. VRIL power is simply the energy of the Universe, and Nazi Germany learned how to tame it and use it for interplanetary travels. There is a lot more to know about the development of Flying Saucers here on Earth, and I strongly recommend you read Jan van Helsing's book, Secret Societies and Their Power in the 20th Century to learn more. It goes into details on this and various other very important subjects. For our purpose it is not necessary to go into too much details about this, other than you need to know that these things were and are going on around us in secret, and many UFOs that people see (but not all of them) are man-made. There can't be much of a discussion whether the Vril space-crafts are real or not, because the evidence is overwhelming and indisputable. Still, there are a few more things worth mentioning. At the beginning of 1943 it was planned in Nazi Germany to build in the Zeppelin hangars, a cigar-shaped mother ship. The ANDROMEDA DEVICE of a length of 139 meters should transport several saucer-shaped craft in its body for flights of long duration (interstellar flights). By Christmas 1943 an important Vril-Gesellschaft meeting took place in the seaside resort of Kolberg. The two mediums Maria Orsic and Sigrun attended. The main item on the agenda was the ALDEBARAN PROJECT. The mediums had received precise information about the habitable planets around the sun Aldebaran and one began to plan a trip there. At a January 22, 1944 meeting between Hitler, Himmler, Kunkel (of the Vril Society) and Dr. Schumann this project was discussed. It was planned to send the VRIL-8 (Odin) large-capacity craft through a dimension channel independent of the speed of light to Alderbaran. Under the operation PAPERCLIP German scientists who had worked in secret were brought to the U.S. privately, among them VIKTOR SCHAUBERGER and WERNHER vON BRAUN - both had been working on these projects and now introduced this secret technology to the United States Government. In 1938 a German expedition to ANTARCTICA was made with the aircraft carrier Schwabenland (Swabia). 600,000 kms of an ice-free area with lakes and mountains were declared German territory, the NEUSCHWABENLAND (New Swabia). Whole fleets of submarines of the XXI series were later headed towards Neuschwabenland. Conceptual art of Neu Schwabenland high-tech U-Boot Type XXVI was a high-seas U-boat propelled by the Walter Propulsion System. They would have had a crew of 3 officers and 30 men, with ten torpedo tubes, 4 at the bow and 6 in a so-called Schnee organ, and no deck guns. 100 contracts were initially awarded to the Blohm + Voss yard in Hamburg (U-4501 through U-4600) and sections were under construction for U-4501 through U-4504 when the war ended. The other contracts had been cancelled. Today about one hundred German submarines are still unaccounted for, some equipped with the Walter Snorkel, a device that allowed them to stay submerged for several weeks, and it can be assumed that they fled to Neuschwabenland with the dismantled flying disks or at least the construction plans. Again it must be assumed that since the test flights had been very successful some so-called flying saucers have flown directly there at the end of the war. Perhaps some may think these assumptions to be a bit on the daring side, but there are strong indications that it may well have happened that way. There is a question: Why in 1947 ADMIRAL E. BYRD led an invasion of ANTARCTICA, why he had 4,000 soldiers, a man-of-war, a fully equipped aircraft carrier and a functioning supply system at his command if it was a mere expedition? He had been given eight months for the exercise, but they had to stop after eight weeks and high losses of planes undisclosed even today. What had happened? Later Admiral Byrd spoke to the press: It is the bitter reality that in the case of a new war one has to expect attacks by planes that could fly from Pole to Pole.Jan van Helsing tells us that Norbert-Jürgen Ratthofer writes about the whereabouts of the Haunebu developments in his book Zeitmaschinen (Time Machines).The Haunebu I, II and III space gyros and the VRIL I space flying disk had disappeared after May 1945. It is very interesting to note in the context that after its nineteenth test flight the German Haunebu III is said to have taken off on April 21, 1945, from Neuschwabenland, a vast, officially German territory in the Eastern Antarctic, for an expedition to Mars, about which there is nothing further known. One year later, in 1946 the many sightings that suddenly occurred in Scandinavia of shining objects of unknown and definitely artificial origin caused a great stir among the Allies in East and West. Again one year later, in 1947, and well into the Fifties, a rising number of shining unknown flying objects, doubtlessly steered by intelligent beings, mostly round, disk- or bell-shaped, sometimes cigar-shaped, so-called UFOs appeared over North America... A lone prototype was constructed before the close of the war and was to be used for evacuation work for Thule and Vril in March 1945. Subsequent postwar claims that this craft was ultimately used for a mission to Mars is completely unfounded; even with onboard SS oxygen generators and modified Draeger Werke pressure suits there is no way this machine could withstand an eight month journey to Mars. What would be the purpose anyway? The Gesellschaften were aiming at channeled flight not conventional space flight. The text goes on to say that as a rule these objects were unlike the German developments. But good photographic material proves that the Haunebu II version especially had been sighted very often since 1945. It is further said that color photographs taken by a night guard in West Germany in the Seventies exist of a landed and restarted flying disk that had both a knight's cross and a swastika on its hull. According to Thule, and lots of other other independent researchers, another disc left Antarctica in 1945 with both Hitler and Maria Orsic on board. This craft was heading not for Mars, but for Aldebaran. We know for a fact that Orsic "disappeared" from the "face of the Earth", literally speaking, in 1945 and many different researchers suggest she actually went to Aldebaran, but was Hitler on board as well??? Future research may disclose this matter, hopefully. Researchers have long struggled with from where the mediums got their information - whom did they channel? Instructions how to build Vril driven saucers partly came from the ILAT-LITUM plates found in Antarctica in 1939, and partly from previous channeled information, and my research points in the direction that the Vril mediums channeled beings from the Aldebaran System, the original Anunnaki. Vril-8 Odin Schematic It could very well be that the technology to build Vril-Odin originally came from a mix of alien technology and channeled information, but Vril-Odin was built by humans from this same channeled information, plus the instructions in the ILAT-LITUM. According to Herbert G. Dorsey and other researchers they had, besides the construction plans the Vril-Gesellschaft had received through telepathic contact with extra-terrestrials, a non-terrestrial saucer that had crashed in the Black Forest in 1936 and whose undamaged drive had proved a great help to the Germans. But there is practically no proof of that, and no living eye witnesses are known. Is it possible that Vril Power is able to "bend time" by traveling through a dimensional "(worm)hole", like van Helsing suggests, and thus bring the passenger back in the same age (or younger) than he/she was when they left? Early on, while I was researching, a certain girl, code name "Sully" was presented to me as the "Vril girl". No other name. Then, by "accident" on the Internet I looked at photos of Maria Orsic, whom no one had mentioned to me at that point and I did not know about her from previous research. So let me tell you how this developed. In an article (Viktor Schauberger - The UFOs of Nazi Germany), totally unrelated to my research, this picture is published: The picture with the spacecraft is from the Vril Society and was taken in 1944. The girl's name in this picture, I found out, is Maria Orsitsch (Orsic). Now compare the two photos and we can definitely see the similarities. Are these two girls the same person? If so, she hasn't aged! These pictures are at least 65 years apart. Sully Maria Orsic As a matter of fact, after I made this connection, I have had it confirmed from two sources that these two girls are the same person. This biography of Maria Orsitsch is pretty interesting: Maria Orsitsch, also known as Maria Orsic, was a famous medium who later became the leader of the Vril Society. Biography She was born in Vienna. Her father was a Croatian and her mother was a German from Vienna.Although various alleged photos and documents exist that verify Maria Orsitsch's existence, it was only until the 1960s that historians and writers began to note her involvement with Nazi Mysticism. Maria Orsitsch was first mentioned and pictured in 1967 by Bergier and Pauwels in their book Aufbruch ins dritte Jahrtausend: Von der Zukunft der phantastischen Vernunft. Vrilerinnen Women Maria Orsitsch was the head of the 'The All German Society for Metaphysics' (Alldeutsche Gesellschaft für Metaphysik) founded in the early 20th century as a female circle of mediums who were involved in extraterrestrial telepathic contact. The society was later renamed the 'Vril Society' or 'Society of Vrilerinnen Women'. In 1917 Maria Orsitsch is said to have made contact with extraterrestrials from Aldebaran with her female Vril circle. Later in 1919 the Vril circle met with other groups in a small forester's lodge in the vicinity of Berchtesgaden to discuss a possible voyage to Aldebaran to meet the Aliens by the construction of Nazi UFOs. Vril documents mention these telepathic messages had their origin in Aldebaran, a solar system 64 light-years away in the constellation Taurus. Disappearance In 1945 Maria Orsitsch and the Vril Circle mysteriously disappeared. This has led to some writers, conspiracy theorists and Nazi Mystics (i.e. Jan Udo Holey) to believing Maria Orsitsch escaped to Aldebaran. Vril Letter of Departure for Aldebaran March 1945 So again, it's stated she disappeared in 1945. Is "Sully" the Grandmaster of the Vril Society? According to two sources and my own research and observations, she may very well be! Someone showed one of my sources an official Temple of Isis signet from Ancient Egypt that the Military possesses and it depicts Isis under a bull. Aldebaran is known as the Bull's eye of the Taurus constellation. The Isis picture looked exactly like the 'Vril girl'. It is difficult to find a good painting/artifact on Isis to compare the two, and so far I haven't found any that I could say have resemblance with today's Sully/Maria Orsic. Antarctica, Springboard to the Stars This following information comes directly from a Thule Insider. In 1939, Captain Alfred Ritscher of Nazi Germany found the Antarctica entrance into the Inner Earth. He also found the "ILAT-LITUM" plates in a sarcophagus on the coast of Neuschwabenland. In the sarcophagus were still a number of technical devices and instructions that now became available to the Vril Society. The "ILAT-LITUM" was divided into several engraved metal plates or tablets, brought to Berlin and decoded into German by some experts from the Orient. When the plates were found, no one could read them, because they were in Sumerian/Akkadian. This is what the Thule member told me when I asked what ILAT-LITUM is (this email excerpt is translated from German): This book was written for those who were left behind on the planet KI, which we now call Earth. It shows us the history of the gods since their arrival, the war with the Reptoids, the emergence of new types and species, the advancement of the DNA and more…The book was also mentioning the signs that will show for the return of the Gods. It is the story of ourselves and all our deeds. The book was not completely handed over to a human. Only with "Vril-Odin's" departure a full translation was given.Vril-Odin is used to navigate in a timeless space (hyper-space), as well as to assess the upcoming events. Therefore, it would be very dangerous if it gets into the wrong hands... Only when we all understand that we are children of the gods, there will be peace and the divine plan is closed for another eon.ILAT-LITUM contains accurate information on the landing of the Anunnaki Gods on Earth and the fight with the Reptoids. Inside the sarcophagus were also instructions how to build the "Vril-Odin" space craft. The "Vril-Odin" was built per the instructions and was up and flying in the fall of 1944. On board the craft was Reichskanzler Adolf Hitler. The destination of the flight of Vril-Odin was Sumi-An in the Aldebaran solar system. According to the Thule insider, all subsequent appearances of Hitler were done by his doubles. The corpse in the bunker was the body of a double as well. The secret recordings of Hitler on this subject were passed to the Vatican by a Bishop Bremer and these archives are supposed to be opened up in 2012. Nazis in Antarctica, 1939 Captain Ritscher, when he made his expedition, followed the instructions from the Vril Society and channeled information, mainly from the Vril Society's own medium, Sigrun. This means that Ritscher did not find the sarcophagus by accident but was following channeled instructions. We know that Maria Orsic received channeled information regarding the Tablets already in 1919-1924 but wasn't able to decode and interpret it, because it was in Sumerian/Akkadian. We need to remember that the technology known to common people is at least a hundred years up to thousands of years behind the technology used in secret. Moon bases have long been established, and you don't use a slow and unsafe space shuttle to move between planets in our solar system. The Vril power has a lot to do with space technology and how to travel outside this planet. The "disc" that the Anunnaki Gods are talking about in ILAT-LITUM, which they are rotating (or spinning) is from my understanding a Vril machine. Area 51, by the way, is a cover. The real base is in a mountain in Utah. When a craft is taken into space, it leaves from Utah to Antarctica and then exit the atmosphere from there. There is apparently a lot of UFO and underground activity in Utah. There are lots of witnesses, many are Mormons and former Mormons, who say that there is a network of underground tunnels beneath Salt Lake City and some of these people have seen reptilian beings there as well. Interestingly enough, shortly after I published this book on June 17 2009, UFO sightings have increased in numbers rapidly. Agartha - A Nation Inside Earth "Much has been said about the Hollow Earth. Books have been written about it, a lot of Internet sites cover it and some of it is good research, some of it is not. It is an important part of our story, because due to both the Thule and Vril Societies (and other secret societies as well) there is a Nation of Beings inside Earth. This Nation is called Agartha or Agarthi (both variants are used interchangeably - there are other spellings as well) and their Capital is Shambala (or Shamballah). I will just touch briefly on it here. I am going to quote Jan van Helsing from his well researched book: Secret Societies and Their Power in the 20th Century again and this time when comes to explaining what Agarthi/Agartha is, because his research confirms to some extent what members from Thule have told me, but is still just a part of the story" "ULTIMA THULE" apparently was the capital city of the first continent peopled by Aryans. This was called HYPERBOREA and was older than Lemuria and Atlantis (continents with advanced cultures since submerged). The Scandinavians have a tale of "Ultima Thule", the wonderful land in the high North, where the sun never sets and the ancestors of the Aryan race dwell. Hyperborea was up in the North Sea and sank during an ice age. It is assumed that the Hyperboreans came from the solar system Alderbaran which is the main star in the constellation Taurus, and that they were about four meters tall, white, blond and blue-eyed.They knew no war and were vegetarians (so was Hitler). According to alleged Thule texts they were technically very advanced and flew "Vril-ya", flying machines that today we call UFOs. These flying disks were capable of levitation, extreme speeds and the maneuvers known from today's UFOs due to two counter-rotating magnetic fields and they used the so-called Vril power as energy potential or fuel (Vril = ether, Od, Prana, Chi, Ki, cosmic force, Orgon…, but also from the academic "vri-IL" = as the highest deity = God-like), i.e., they take the energy from the earth's magnetic field (free energy) like the "tachyon converter" of Captain Hans Coler. When HYPERBOREA began to sink the Hyperboreans are said to have burrowed with huge machines gigantic tunnels into the Earth's crust and settled under the Himalayan region. The subterranean realm is called AGHARTA and its capital SHAMBALLAH. The Persians call this land "Aryana" the land of origin of the Aryans. Here we should mention that Karl Haushofer claimed that Thule was actually called Atlantis and - contrary to all other researchers of Tibet and India - he said that the surviving Thule-Atlanteans were separated into two groups, a good one and an evil one. Those who called themselves after their oracle Agharta were the good and settled in the Himalayan region, the evil ones were the Shamballah who wanted to subjugate humanity and they went West. He maintained that the fight between the people of Agharta and Shamballah had been going on for thousands of years and that in the Third Reich the Thule-Gesellschaft as Agharta's representative continued it against the representatives of Shamballah, the Freemasons and the Zionists. This perhaps was his mission.The head of this subterranean region he said was Rigden Iyepo, the king of the world, with his representative upon the Earth's surface, the Dalai Lama. Haushofer was convinced that the land below the Himalayas was the birthplace of the Aryan race, which he claimed to have confirmed during his Tibet and India travels.The symbol of Thule was the Swastika counter clockwise. Tibetan lamas and the Dalai Lama personally testified that people from Agartha were still living today. The subterranean land that is anchored in almost all Eastern traditions has spread over the millennia under all of the Earth's surface with huge centers under the Sahara desert, the Matto Grosso and the Santa Catarina mountains in Brazil, Yucatan in Mexico, Mount Shasta in California, England, Egypt, Czechoslovakia.It seems that Hitler especially sought to discover the entrances to the subterranean world Agartha and to get in contact with the descendants of the Aryan "God people" from Alderbaran-Hyperborea. In the myths and traditions of the subterranean world it is often said that the world's surface was yet to suffer a terrible world war (Third World War) which would though be ended by earthquakes, other natural disasters and a switching of the poles and the deaths therefrom of two thirds of humanity.After this "last war" the several races of the inner earth would reunite with the survivors on the surface and that the thousand-year GOLDEN AGE (age of Aquarius) would be rung in. Hitler wanted to build an outer "Agartha" or "Aryana" with the Aryan master race, and Germany should be its home. During the existence of the "Third Reich" two large expeditions were sent by the SS to the Himalayas to find those entrances.Further expeditions searched in the Andes, the Matto Grosso mountains in the North and the Santa Catarina mountains in the south of Brazil, in Czechoslovakia and parts of England.Some authors claim that the Thule people believed that - quite independently of the subterranean tunnel and city system - the Earth was HOLLOW, with two great openings at the poles. Natural laws were quoted, "as above, so below". Since blood, body or egg cells, a comet or an atom all have a nucleus and a hollow space surrounding it that is enclosed by a "corona radiata", an envelope, and the actual "life" is taking place in the core, one has deduced that the Earth was built after the same principles.Druses confirmed this, as they were hollow and the "life", the mineral and crystals, were in the interior. Therefore the Earth also had to be hollow - apparently agreeing with the views of the Tibetan Lamas including the Dalai Lama - and had a nucleus, the Central Sun (also called the "Schwarze Sonne", the Black Sun) that gave the interior an even climate and permanent sunlight, corresponding in the microcosm to the central sun of the galaxy in the macrocosm.They maintain there is a place in the interior - the master race lives inside and the mutants on the surface - and that this was also the reason why we wouldn't find any life upon other planets of our solar system, because their inhabitants live inside. The main entrances are at the North and South poles through which the central sun is shining and producing the aurora borealis. In the interior the land mass was exceeding the water mass. The polar explorer Olaf Jansen and others said that the water in the interior was fresh, which could explain why the ice of the Arctic and Antarctic is made of freshwater, not salt water. It is interesting to note that this view of the make-up of the world is shared and supported by the polar explorers Cook, Peary, Amundsen, Nansen, and Kane and, last but not least, Admiral E. Byrd. All had the same, strange experiences contradicting existing scientific theory.All confirmed that after 76 degreed latitude the winds became warmer, that birds flew north, that they found colored and gray snow which when thawed left colored pollen or volcanic ash. The question arises: where do flower pollen or volcanic ash near the North Pole come from, as not a single volcano is marked on any of the accessible maps? Further, some of the explorers found themselves in freshwater seas, and all say that at a time during their travels they had seen two suns. Mammoths were found whose flesh was still fresh and whose stomach contained fresh grass.The "Hollow Earth" theory has so far remained just a theory to the public, although some authors and explorers claim to have visited there and even - like Admiral E. Byrd - had taken numerous pictures. It cannot be denied that all the Arctic explorers had had extraordinary experiences that so far cannot be explained, which points to something strange happening there. But the theory that the Earth had a molten core has equally remained just a theory. The fact remains though that the subterranean man-made tunnel and cave systems do exist. They can be found in almost any country of the world and by the largely still existing light source (a greenish glow that gets brighter the deeper one enters the tunnels), by the smooth walls and the unknown machinery that was found in the Boynton Canyon in Sedona, Arizona, are witness to a technically advanced culture that existed millions of years before.The myths of a "Hollow Earth" were enough for the Thule people to go out to start a serious study of the phenomenon. Therefore there was at least one expedition to the Antarctic during World War II.To show that the story of the Aryan-Hyperboreans was not entirely invented I would like to mention two examples: When the Spaniards under Pizarro came to South America in 1532, the natives called them "ivicarochas" (white lords). According to their legends there was a master race of very tall white people who centuries before had descended in "flying disks" from heaven. They had long ruled in some of the towns and when they disappeared had promised to return. When the fair skinned Spaniards arrived, the natives thought them to be the iviracochas coming back and therefore in the beginning willingly gave them their gold. Similar occurrences took place when the first white travelers arrived in Tibet and other Himalayan regions. They were scrutinized in astonishment by the Tibetans and asked why they came from BELOW (the foot of the mountains) rather than from ABOVE as they usually did. Ford and Opel (subsidiary of General Motors that is controlled by J. P. Morgan) were the two largest producers of tanks in Hitler's Germany. Whatever the outcome of the war, these multinational companies had already made their cuts. Many enterprises followed this principle during the Second World War. Why is there nothing about all this in schoolbooks or encyclopedias? Especially in Germany where the freedom of the press is apparently honored and the truth is taught? One of the reasons is that the Rockefeller Foundation spent US $139,000 in 1946 to present an official history of the Second World War which covered up the whole story of the U.S. bankers building up the Nazi regime as well as the occult and mystical background of the Nazis. One of the main sponsors was Rockefeller's own "Standard Oil Corp."

IT WAS IN 1886 that the German pharmacologist, Louis Lewin, published the first systematic study of the cactus, to which his own name was subsequently given. Anhalonium lewinii was new to science. To primitive religion and the Indians of Mexico and the American Southwest it was a friend of immemorially long standing. Indeed, it was much more than a friend. In the words of one of the early Spanish visitors to the New World, "they eat a root which they call peyote, and which they venerate as though it were a deity." Why they should have venerated it as a deity became apparent when such eminent psychologists as Jaensch, Havelock Ellis and Weir Mitchell began their experiments with mescalin, the active principle of peyote. True, they stopped short at a point well this side of idolatry; but all concurred in assigning to mescalin a position among drugs of unique distinction. Administered in suitable doses, it changes the quality of consciousness more profoundly and yet is less toxic than any other substance in the pharmacologist's repertory. Mescalin research has been going on sporadically ever since the days of Lewin and Havelock Ellis. Chemists have not merely isolated the alkaloid; they have learned how to synthesize it, so that the supply no longer depends on the sparse and intermittent crop of a desert cactus. Alienists have dosed themselves with mescalin in the hope thereby of coming to a better, a first-hand, understanding of their patients' mental processes. Working unfortunately upon too few subjects within too narrow a range of circumstances, psychologists have observed and catalogued some of the drug's more striking effects. Neurologists and physiologists have found out something about the mechanism of its action upon the central nervous system. And at least one Professional philosopher has taken mescalin for the light it may throw on such ancient, unsolved riddles as the place of mind in nature and the relationship between brain and consciousness. There matters rested until, two or three years ago, a new and perhaps highly significant fact was observed.* Actually the fact had been staring everyone in the face for several decades; but nobody, as it happened, had noticed it until a Young English psychiatrist, at present working in Canada, was struck by the close similarity, in chemical composition, between mescalin and adrenalin. Further research revealed that lysergic acid, an extremely potent hallucinogen derived from ergot, has a structural biochemical relationship to the others. Then came the discovery that adrenochrome, which is a product of the decomposition of adrenalin, can produce many of the symptoms observed in mescalin intoxication. But adrenochrome probably occurs spontaneously in the human body. In other words, each one of us may be capable of manufacturing a chemical, minute doses of which are known to cause Profound changes in consciousness. Certain of these changes are similar to those which occur in that most characteristic plague of the twentieth century, schizophrenia. Is the mental disorder due to a chemical disorder? And is the chemical disorder due, in its turn, to psychological distresses affecting the adrenals? It would be rash and premature to affirm it. The most we can say is that some kind of a prima facie case has been made out. Meanwhile the clue is being systematically followed, the sleuths—biochemists , psychiatrists, psychologists—are on the trail. By a series of, for me, extremely fortunate circumstances I found myself, in the spring of 1953, squarely athwart that trail. One of the sleuths had come on business to California. In spite of seventy years of mescalin research, the psychological material at his disposal was still absurdly inadequate, and he was anxious to add to it. I was on the spot and willing, indeed eager, to be a guinea pig. Thus it came about that, one bright May morning, I swallowed four-tenths of a gram of mescalin dissolved in half a glass of water and sat down to wait for the results. We live together, we act on, and react to, one another; but always and in all circumstances we are by ourselves. The martyrs go hand in hand into the arena; they are crucified alone. Embraced, the lovers desperately try to fuse their insulated ecstasies into a single self-transcendence; in vain. By its very nature every embodied spirit is doomed to suffer and enjoy in solitude. Sensations, feelings, insights, fancies—all these are private and, except through symbols and at second hand, incommunicable. We can pool information about experiences, but never the experiences themselves. From family to nation, every human group is a society of island universes. Most island universes are sufficiently like one another to Permit of inferential understanding or even of mutual empathy or "feeling into." Thus, remembering our own bereavements and humiliations, we can condole with others in analogous circumstances, can put ourselves (always, of course, in a slightly Pickwickian sense) in their places. But in certain cases communication between universes is incomplete or even nonexistent. The mind is its own place, and the Places inhabited by the insane and the exceptionally gifted are so different from the places where ordinary men and women live, that there is little or no common ground of memory to serve as a basis for understanding or fellow feeling. Words are uttered, but fail to enlighten. The things and events to which the symbols refer belong to mutually exclusive realms of experience. To see ourselves as others see us is a most salutary gift. Hardly less important is the capacity to see others as they see themselves. But what if these others belong to a different species and inhabit a radically alien universe? For example, how can the sane get to know what it actually feels like to be mad? Or, short of being born again as a visionary, a medium, or a musical genius, how can we ever visit the worlds which, to Blake, to Swedenborg, to Johann Sebastian Bach, were home? And how can a man at the extreme limits of ectomorphy and cerebrotonia ever put himself in the place of one at the limits of endomorphy and viscerotonia, or, except within certain circumscribed areas, share the feelings of one who stands at the limits of mesomorphy and somatotonia? To the unmitigated behaviorist such questions, I suppose, are meaningless. But for those who theoretically believe what in practice they know to be true—namely, that there is an inside to experience as well as an outside—the problems posed are real problems, all the more grave for being, some completely insoluble, some soluble only in exceptional circumstances and by methods not available to everyone. Thus, it seems virtually certain that I shall never know what it feels like to be Sir John Falstaff or Joe Louis. On the other hand, it had always seemed to me possible that, through hypnosis, for example, or auto-hypnosis, by means of systematic meditation, or else by taking the appropriate drug, I might so change my ordinary mode of consciousness as to be able to know, from the inside, what the visionary, the medium, even the mystic were talking about. From what I had read of the mescalin experience I was convinced in advance that the drug would admit me, at least for a few hours, into the kind of inner world described by Blake and AE. But what I had expected did not happen. I had expected to lie with my eyes shut, looking at visions of many-colored geometries, of animated architectures, rich with gems and fabulously lovely, of landscapes with heroic figures, of symbolic dramas trembling perpetually on the verge of the ultimate revelation. But I had not reckoned, it was evident, with the idiosyncrasies of my mental make-up, the facts of my temperament, training and habits. I am and, for as long as I can remember, I have always been a poor visualizer. Words, even the pregnant words of poets, do not evoke pictures in my mind. No hypnagogic visions greet me on the verge of sleep. When I recall something, the memory does not present itself to me as a vividly seen event or object. By an effort of the will, I can evoke a not very vivid image of what happened yesterday afternoon, of how the Lungarno used to look before the bridges were destroyed, of the Bayswater Road when the only buses were green and tiny and drawn by aged horses at three and a half miles an hour. But such images have little substance and absolutely no autonomous life of their own. They stand to real, perceived objects in the same relation as Homer's ghosts stood to the men of flesh and blood, who came to visit them in the shades. Only when I have a high temperature do my mental images come to independent life. To those in whom the faculty of visualization is strong my inner world must seem curiously drab, limited and uninteresting. This was the world—a poor thing but my own—which I expected to see transformed into something completely unlike itself. The change which actually took place in that world was in no sense revolutionary. Half an hour after swallowing the drug I became aware of a slow dance of golden lights. A little later there were sumptuous red surfaces swelling and expanding from bright nodes of energy that vibrated with a continuously changing, patterned life. At another time the closing of my eyes revealed a complex of gray structures, within which pale bluish spheres kept emerging into intense solidity and, having emerged, would slide noiselessly upwards, out of sight. But at no time were there faces or forms of men or animals. I saw no landscapes, no enormous spaces, no magical growth and metamorphosis of buildings, nothing remotely like a drama or a parable. The other world to which mescalin admitted me was not the world of visions; it existed out there, in what I could see with my eyes open. The great change was in the realm of objective fact. What had happened to my subjective universe was relatively unimportant. I took my pill at eleven. An hour and a half later, I was sitting in my study, looking intently at a small glass vase. The vase contained only three flowers-a full-blown Belie of Portugal rose, shell pink with a hint at every petal's base of a hotter, flamier hue; a large magenta and cream-colored carnation; and, pale purple at the end of its broken stalk, the bold heraldic blossom of an iris. Fortuitous and provisional, the little nosegay broke all the rules of traditional good taste. At breakfast that morning I had been struck by the lively dissonance of its colors. But that was no longer the point. I was not looking now at an unusual flower arrangement. I was seeing what Adam had seen on the morning of his creation-the miracle, moment by moment, of naked existence. "Is it agreeable?" somebody asked. (During this Part of the experiment, all conversations were recorded on a dictating machine, and it has been possible for me to refresh my memory of what was said.) "Neither agreeable nor disagreeable," I answered. "it just is." Istigkeit—wasn't that the word Meister Eckhart liked to use? "Is-ness." The Being of Platonic philosophy— except that Plate seems to have made the enormous, the grotesque mistake of separating Being from becoming and identifying it with the mathematical abstraction of the Idea. He could never, poor fellow, have seen a bunch of flowers shining with their own inner light and all but quivering under the pressure of the significance with which they were charged; could never have perceived that what rose and iris and carnation so intensely signified was nothing more, and nothing less, than what they were—a transience that was yet eternal life, a perpetual perishing that was at the same time pure Being, a bundle of minute, unique particulars in which, by some unspeakable and yet self-evident paradox, was to be seen the divine source of all existence. I continued to look at the flowers, and in their living light I seemed to detect the qualitative equivalent of breathing—but of a breathing without returns to a starting point, with no recurrent ebbs but only a repeated flow from beauty to heightened beauty, from deeper to ever deeper meaning. Words like "grace" and "transfiguration" came to my mind, and this, of course, was what, among other things, they stood for. My eyes traveled from the rose to the carnation, and from that feathery incandescence to the smooth scrolls of sentient amethyst which were the iris. The Beatific Vision, Sat Chit Ananda, Being-Awareness-Bliss-for the first time I understood, not on the verbal level, not by inchoate hints or at a distance, but precisely and completely what those prodigious syllables referred to. And then I remembered a passage I had read in one of Suzuki's essays. "What is the Dharma-Body of the Buddha?" ('"the Dharma-Body of the Buddha" is another way of saying Mind, Suchness, the Void, the Godhead.) The question is asked in a Zen monastery by an earnest and bewildered novice. And with the prompt irrelevance of one of the Marx Brothers, the Master answers, "The hedge at the bottom of the garden." "And the man who realizes this truth," the novice dubiously inquires, '"what, may I ask, is he?" Groucho gives him a whack over the shoulders with his staff and answers, "A golden-haired lion." It had been, when I read it, only a vaguely pregnant piece of nonsense. Now it was all as clear as day, as evident as Euclid. Of course the Dharma-Body of the Buddha was the hedge at the bottom of the garden. At the same time, and no less obviously, it was these flowers, it was anything that I—or rather the blessed Not-I, released for a moment from my throttling embrace—cared to look at. The books, for example, with which my study walls were lined. Like the flowers, they glowed, when I looked at them, with brighter colors, a profounder significance. Red books, like rubies; emerald books; books bound in white jade; books of agate; of aquamarine, of yellow topaz; lapis lazuli books whose color was so intense, so intrinsically meaningful, that they seemed to be on the point of leaving the shelves to thrust themselves more insistently on my attention. "What about spatial relationships?" the investigator inquired, as I was looking at the books. It was difficult to answer. True, the perspective looked rather odd, and the walls of the room no longer seemed to meet in right angles. But these were not the really important facts. The really important facts were that spatial relationships had ceased to matter very much and that my mind was perceiving the world in terms of other than spatial categories. At ordinary times the eye concerns itself with such problems as Where?—How far?—How situated in relation to what? In the mescalin experience the implied questions to which the eye responds are of another order. Place and distance cease to be of much interest. The mind does its Perceiving in terms of intensity of existence, profundity of significance, relationships within a pattern. I saw the books, but was not at all concerned with their positions in space. What I noticed, what impressed itself upon my mind was the fact that all of them glowed with living light and that in some the glory was more manifest than in others. In this context position and the three dimensions were beside the point. Not, of course, that the category of space had been abolished. When I got up and walked about, I could do so quite normally, without misjudging the whereabouts of objects. Space was still there; but it had lost its predominance. The mind was primarily concerned, not with measures and locations, but with being and meaning. And along with indifference to space there went an even more complete indifference to time. "There seems to be plenty of it," was all I would answer, when the investigator asked me to say what I felt about time. Plenty of it, but exactly how much was entirely irrelevant. I could, of course, have looked at my watch; but my watch, I knew, was in another universe. My actual experience had been, was still, of an indefinite duration or alternatively of a perpetual present made up of one continually changing apocalypse. From the books the investigator directed my attention to the furniture. A small typing table stood in the center of the room; beyond it, from my point of view, was a wicker chair and beyond that a desk. The three pieces formed an intricate pattern of horizontals, uprights and diagonals—a pattern all the more interesting for not being interpreted in terms of spatial relationships. Table, chair and desk came together in a composition that was like something by Braque or Juan Gris, a still life recognizably related to the objective world, but rendered without depth, without any attempt at photographic realism. I was looking at my furniture, not as the utilitarian who has to sit on chairs, to write at desks and tables, and not as the cameraman or scientific recorder, but as the pure aesthete whose concern is only with forms and their relationships within the field of vision or the picture space. But as I looked, this purely aesthetic, Cubist's-eye view gave place to what I can only describe as the sacramental vision of reality. I was back where I had been when I was looking at the flowers-back in a world where everything shone with the Inner Light, and was infinite in its significance. The legs, for example, of that chair—how miraculous their tubularity, how supernatural their polished smoothness! I spent several minutes—or was it several centuries?—not merely gazing at those bamboo legs, but actually being them—-or rather being myself in them; or, to be still more accurate (for "I" was not involved in the case, nor in a certain sense were "they") being my Not-self in the Not-self which was the chair. Reflecting on my experience, I find myself agreeing with the eminent Cambridge philosopher, Dr. C. D. Broad, "that we should do well to consider much more seriously than we have hitherto been inclined to do the type of theory which Bergson put forward in connection with memory and sense perception. The suggestion is that the function of the brain and nervous system and sense organs is in the main eliminative and not productive. Each person is at each moment capable of remembering all that has ever happened to him and of perceiving everything that is happening everywhere in the universe. The function of the brain and nervous system is to protect us from being overwhelmed and confused by this mass of largely useless and irrelevant knowledge, by shutting out most of what we should otherwise perceive or remember at any moment, and leaving only that very small and special selection which is likely to be practically useful." According to such a theory, each one of us is potentially Mind at Large. But in so far as we are animals, our business is at all costs to survive. To make biological survival possible, Mind at Large has to be funneled through the reducing valve of the brain and nervous system. What comes out at the other end is a measly trickle of the kind of consciousness which will help us to stay alive on the surface of this Particular planet. To formulate and express the contents of this reduced awareness, man has invented and endlessly elaborated those symbol-systems and implicit philosophies which we call languages. Every individual is at once the beneficiary and the victim of the linguistic tradition into which he has been born—the beneficiary inasmuch as language gives access to the accumulated records of other people's experience, the victim in so far as it confirms him in the belief that reduced awareness is the only awareness and as it bedevils his sense of reality, so that he is all too apt to take his concepts for data, his words for actual things. That which, in the language of religion, is called "this world" is the universe of reduced awareness, expressed, and, as it were, petrified by language. The various "other worlds," with which human beings erratically make contact are so many elements in the totality of the awareness belonging to Mind at Large. Most people, most of the time, know only what comes through the reducing valve and is consecrated as genuinely real by the local language. Certain persons, however, seem to be born with a kind of by-pass that circumvents the reducing valve. In others temporary by-passes may be acquired either spontaneously, or as the result of deliberate "spiritual exercises," or through hypnosis, or by means of drugs. Through these permanent or temporary by-passes there flows, not indeed the perception "of everything that is happening everywhere in the universe" (for the by-pass does not abolish the reducing valve, which still excludes the total content of Mind at Large), but something more than, and above all something different from, the carefully selected utilitarian material which our narrowed, individual minds regard as a complete, or at least sufficient, picture of reality. The brain is provided with a number of enzyme systems which serve to co-ordinate its workings. Some of these enzymes regulate the supply of glucose to the brain cells. Mescalin inhibits the production of these enzymes and thus lowers the amount of glucose available to an organ that is in constant need of sugar. When mescalin reduces the brain's normal ration of sugar what happens? Too few cases have been observed, and therefore a comprehensive answer cannot yet be given. But what happens to the majority of the few who have taken mescalin under supervision can be summarized as follows. (1) The ability to remember and to "think straight" is little if at all reduced. (Listening to the recordings of my conversation under the influence of the drug, I cannot discover that I was then any stupider than I am at ordinary times.) (2) Visual impressions are greatly intensified and the eye recovers some of the perceptual innocence of childhood, when the sensum was not immediately and automatically subordinated to the concept. Interest in space is diminished and interest in time falls almost to zero. (3) Though the intellect remains unimpaired and though perception is enormously improved, the will suffers a profound change for the worse. The mescalin taker sees no reason for doing anything in particular and finds most of the causes for which, at ordinary times, he was prepared to act and suffer, profoundly uninteresting. He can't be bothered with them, for the good reason that he has better things to think about. (4) These better things may be experienced (as I experienced them) "out there," or "in here," or in both worlds, the inner and the outer, simultaneously or successively. That they are better seems to be self-evident to all mescalin takers who come to the drug with a sound liver and an untroubled mind. These effects of mescalin are the sort of effects you could expect to follow the administration of a drug having the power to impair the efficiency of the cerebral reducing valve. When the brain runs out of sugar, the undernourished ego grows weak, can't be bothered to undertake the necessary chores, and loses all interest in those spatial and temporal relationships which mean so much to an organism bent on getting on in the world. As Mind at Large seeps past the no longer watertight valve, all kinds of biologically useless things start to happen. In some cases there may be extra-sensory perceptions. Other persons discover a world of visionary beauty. To others again is revealed the glory, the infinite value and meaningfulness of naked existence, of the given, unconceptualized event. In the final stage of egolessness there is an "obscure knowledge" that All is in all—that All is actually each. This is as near, I take it, as a finite mind can ever come to "perceiving everything that is happening everywhere in the universe." In this context, how significant is the enormous heightening, under mescalin, of the perception of color! For certain animals it is biologically very important to be able to distinguish certain hues. But beyond the limits of their utilitarian spectrum, most creatures are completely color blind. Bees, for example, spend most of their time "deflowering the fresh virgins of the spring"; but, as Von Frisch has shown, they can recognize only a very few colors. Man's highly developed color sense is a biological luxury—inestimably precious to him as an intellectual and spiritual being, but unnecessary to his survival as an animal. To judge by the adjectives which Homer puts into their mouths, the heroes of the Trojan War hardly excelled the bees in their capacity to distinguish colors. In this respect, at least, mankind's advance has been prodigious. Mescalin raises all colors to a higher power and makes the percipient aware of innumerable fine shades of difference, to which, at ordinary times, he is completely blind. It would seem that, for Mind at Large, the so-called secondary characters of things are primary. Unlike Locke, it evidently feels that colors are more important, better worth attending to, than masses, positions and dimensions. Like mescalin takers, many mystics perceive supernaturally brilliant colors, not only with the inward eye, but even in the objective world around them. Similar reports are made by psychics and sensitives. There are certain mediums to whom the mescalin taker's brief revelation is a matter, during long periods, of daily and hourly experience. From this long but indispensable excursion into the realm of theory, we may now return to the miraculous facts—four bamboo chair legs in the middle of a room. Like Wordsworth's daffodils, they brought all manner of wealth—the gift, beyond price, of a new direct insight into the very Nature of Things, together with a more modest treasure of understanding in the field, especially, of the arts. A rose is a rose is a rose. But these chair legs were chair legs were St. Michael and all angels. Four or five hours after the event, when the effects of a cerebral sugar shortage were wearing off, I was taken for a little tour of the city, which included a visit, towards sundown, to what is modestly claimed to be the World's Biggest Drug Store. At the back of the W.B.D.S., among the toys, the greeting cards and the comics, stood a row, surprisingly enough, of art books. I picked up the first volume that came to hand. It was on Van Gogh, and the picture at which the book opened was "The Chair"—that astounding portrait of a Ding an Sich, which the mad painter saw, with a kind of adoring terror, and tried to render on his canvas. But it was a task to which the power even of genius proved wholly inadequate. The chair Van Gogh had seen was obviously the same in essence as the chair I had seen. But, though incomparably more real than the chairs of ordinary perception, the chair in his picture remained no more than an unusually expressive symbol of the fact. The fact had been manifested Suchness; this was only an emblem. Such emblems are sources of true knowledge about the Nature of Things, and this true knowledge may serve to prepare the mind which accepts it for immediate insights on its own account. But that is all. However expressive, symbols can never be the things they stand for. It would be interesting, in this context, to make a study of the works of art available to the great knowers of Suchness. What sort of pictures did Eckhart look at? What sculptures and paintings played a part in the religious experience of St. John of the Cross, of Hakuin, of Hui-neng, of William Law? The questions are beyond my power to answer; but I strongly suspect that most of the great knowers of Suchness paid very little attention to art—some refusing to have anything to do with it at all, others being content with what a critical eye would regard as second-rate, or even, tenth-rate, works. (To a person whose transfigured and transfiguring mind can see the All in every this, the first-rateness or tenth-rateness of even a religious painting will be a matter of the most sovereign indifference.) Art, I suppose, is only for beginners, or else for those resolute dead-enders, who have made up their minds to be content with the ersatz of Suchness, with symbols rather than with what they signify, with the elegantly composed recipe in lieu of actual dinner. I returned the Van Gogh to its rack and picked up the volume standing next to it. It was a book on Botticelli. I turned the pages. "The Birth of Venus"-never one of my favorites. "Mars and Venus," that loveliness so passionately denounced by poor Ruskin at the height of his long-drawn sexual tragedy. The marvelously rich and intricate "Calumny of Apelles." And then a somewhat less familiar and not very good picture, "Judith." My attention was arrested and I gazed in fascination, not at the pale neurotic heroine or her attendant, not at the victim's hairy head or the vernal landscape in the background, but at the purplish silk of Judith's pleated bodice and long wind-blown skirts. This was something I had seen before-seen that very morning, between the flowers and the furniture, when I looked down by chance, and went on passionately staring by choice, at my own crossed legs. Those folds in the trousers—what a labyrinth of endlessly significant complexity! And the texture of the gray flannel—how rich, how deeply, mysteriously sumptuous! And here they were again, in Botticelli's picture. Civilized human beings wear clothes, therefore there can be no portraiture, no mythological or historical storytelling without representations of folded textiles. But though it may account for the origins, mere tailoring can never explain the luxuriant development of drapery as a major theme of all the plastic arts. Artists, it is obvious, have always loved drapery for its own sake—or, rather, for their own. When you paint or carve drapery, you are painting or carving forms which, for all practical purposes, are non-representational—the kind of unconditioned forms on which artists even in the most naturalistic tradition like to let themselves go. In the average Madonna or Apostle the strictly human, fully representational element accounts for about ten per cent of the whole. All the rest consists of many colored variations on the inexhaustible theme of crumpled wool or linen. And these non-representational nine-tenths of a Madonna or an Apostle may be just as important qualitatively as they are in quantity. Very often they set the tone of the whole work of art, they state the key in which the theme is being rendered, they express the mood, the temperament, the attitude to life of the artist. Stoical serenity reveals itself in the smooth surfaces, the broad untortured folds of Piero's draperies. Torn between fact and wish, between cynicism and idealism, Bernini tempers the all but caricatural verisimilitude of his faces with enormous sartorial abstractions, which are the embodiment, in stone or bronze, of the everlasting commonplaces of rhetoric—the heroism, the holiness, the sublimity to which mankind perpetually aspires, for the most part in vain. And here are El Greco's disquietingly visceral skirts and mantles; here are the sharp, twisting, flame-like folds in which Cosimo Tura clothes his figures: in the first, traditional spirituality breaks down into a nameless physiological yearning; in the second, there writhes an agonized sense of the world's essential strangeness and hostility. Or consider Watteau; his men and women play lutes, get ready for balls and harlequinades, embark, on velvet lawns and under noble trees, for the Cythera of every lover's dream; their enormous melancholy and the flayed, excruciating sensibility of their creator find expression, not in the actions recorded, not in the gestures and the faces portrayed, but in the relief and texture of their taffeta skirts, their satin capes and doublets. Not an inch of smooth surface here, not a moment of peace or confidence, only a silken wilderness of countless tiny pleats and wrinkles, with an incessant modulation—inner uncertainty rendered with the perfect assurance of a master hand—of tone into tone, of one indeterminate color into another. In life, man proposes, God disposes. In the plastic arts the proposing is done by the subject matter; that which disposes is ultimately the artist's temperament, proximately (at least in portraiture, history and genre) the carved or painted drapery. Between them, these two may decree that a fête galante shall move to tears, that a crucifixion shall be serene to the point of cheerfulness, that a stigmatization shall be almost intolerably sexy, that the likeness of a prodigy of female brainlessness (I am thinking now of Ingres' incomparable Mme. Moitessier) shall express the austerest, the most uncompromising intellectuality. But this is not the whole story. Draperies, as I had now discovered, are much more than devices for the introduction of non-representational forms into naturalistic paintings and sculptures. What the rest of us see only under the influence of mescalin, the artist is congenitally equipped to see all the time. His perception is not limited to what is biologically or socially useful. A little of the knowledge belonging to Mind at Large oozes past the reducing valve of brain and ego, into his consciousness. It is a knowledge of the intrinsic significance of every existent. For the artist as for the mescalin taker draperies are living hieroglyphs that stand in some peculiarly expressive way for the unfathomable mystery of pure being. More even than the chair, though less perhaps than those wholly supernatural flowers, the folds of my gray flannel trousers were charged with "is-ness." To what they owed this privileged status, I cannot say. Is it, perhaps, because the forms of folded drapery are so strange and dramatic that they catch the eye and in this way force the miraculous fact of sheer existence upon the attention? Who knows? What is important is less the reason for the experience than the experience itself. Poring over Judith's skirts, there in the World's Biggest Drug Store, I knew that Botticelli—and not Botticelli alone, but many others too-had looked at draperies with the same transfigured and transfiguring eyes as had been mine that morning. They had seen the Istigkeit, the Allness and Infinity of folded cloth and had done their best to render it in paint or stone. Necessarily, of course, without success. For the glory and the wonder of pure existence belong to another order, beyond the Power of even the highest art to express. But in Judith's skirt I could clearly see what, if I had been a painter of genius, I might have made of my old gray flannels. Not much, heaven knows, in comparison with the reality, but enough to delight generation after generation of beholders, enough to make them understand at least a little of the true significance of what, in our pathetic imbecility, we call "mere things" and disregard in favor of television. "This is how one ought to see," I kept saying as I looked down at my trousers, or glanced at the jeweled books in the shelves, at the legs of my infinitely more than Van-Goghian chair. "This is how one ought to see, how things really are." And yet there were reservations. For if one always saw like this, one would never want to do anything else. Just looking, just being the divine Not-self of flower, of book, of chair, of flannel. That would be enough. But in that case what about other people? What about human relations? In the recording of that morning's conversations I find the question constantly repeated, "What about human relations?" How could one reconcile this timeless bliss of seeing as one ought to see with the temporal duties of doing what one ought to do and feeling as one ought to feel? "One ought to be able," I said, "to see these trousers as infinitely important and human beings as still more infinitely important." One ought-but in practice it seemed to be impossible. This participation in the manifest glory of things left no room, so to speak, for the ordinary, the necessary concerns of human existence, above all for concerns involving persons. For Persons are selves and, in one respect at least, I was now a Not-self, simultaneously perceiving and being the Not-self of the things around me. To this new-born Not-self, the behavior, the appearance, the very thought of the self it had momentarily ceased to be, and of other selves, its one-time fellows, seemed not indeed distasteful (for distastefulness was not one of the categories in terms of which I was thinking), but enormously irrelevant. Compelled by the investigator to analyze and report on what I was doing (and how I longed to be left alone with Eternity in a flower, Infinity in four chair legs and the Absolute in the folds of a pair of flannel trousers!), I realized that I was deliberately avoiding the eyes of those who were with me in the room, deliberately refraining from being too much aware of them. One was my wife, the other a man I respected and greatly liked; but both belonged to the world from which, for the moment, mescalin had delivered me "e world of selves, of time, of moral judgments and utilitarian considerations, the world (and it was this aspect of human life which I wished, above all else, to forget) of self-assertion, of cocksureness, of overvalued words and idolatrously worshipped notions. At this stage of the proceedings I was handed a large colored reproduction of the well-known self-portrait by Cézanne—the head and shoulders of a man in a large straw hat, red-cheeked, red-lipped, with rich black whiskers and a dark unfriendly eye. It is a magnificent painting; but it was not as a painting that I now saw it. For the head promptly took on a third dimension and came to life as a small goblin-like man looking out through a window in the page before me. I started to laugh. And when they asked me why, "What pretensions!" I kept repeating. "Who on earth does he think he is?" The question was not addressed to Cézanne in particular, but to the human species at large. Who did they all think they were? "It's like Arnold Bennett in the Dolomites," I said, suddenly remembering a scene, happily immortalized in a snapshot, of A.B., some four or five years before his death, toddling along a wintry road at Cortina d'Ampezzo. Around him lay the virgin snow; in the background was a more than gothic aspiration of red crags. And there was dear, kind, unhappy A.B., consciously overacting the role of his favorite character in fiction, himself, the Card in person. There he went, toddling slowly in the bright Alpine sunshine, his thumbs in the armholes of a yellow waistcoat which bulged, a little lower down, with the graceful curve of a Regency bow window at Brighten—his head thrown back as though to aim some stammered utterance, howitzer-like, at the blue dome of heaven. What he actually said, I have forgotten; but what his whole manner, air and posture fairly shouted was, "I'm as good as those damned mountains." And in some ways, of course, he was infinitely better; but not, as he knew very well, in the way his favorite character in fiction liked to imagine. Successfully (whatever that may mean) or unsuccessfully, we all overact the part of our favorite character in fiction. And the fact, the almost infinitely unlikely fact, of actually being Cézanne makes no difference. For the consummate painter, with his little pipeline to Mind at Large by-passing the brain valve and ego-filter, was also and just as genuinely this whiskered goblin with the unfriendly eye. For relief I turned back to the folds in my trousers. "This is how one ought to see," I repeated yet again. And I might have added,' 'These are the sort of things one ought to look at." Things without pretensions, satisfied to be merely themselves, sufficient in their Suchness, not acting a part, not trying, insanely, to go it alone, in isolation from the Dharma-Body, in Luciferian defiance of the grace of god. "The nearest approach to this," I said, "would be a Vermeer." Yes, a Vermeer. For that mysterious artist was truly gifted-with the vision that perceives the Dharma-Body as the hedge at the bottom of the garden, with the talent to render as much of that vision as the limitations of human capacity permit, and with the prudence to confine himself in his paintings to the more manageable aspects of reality; for though Vermeer represented human beings, he was always a painter of still life. Cézanne, who told his female sitters to do their best to look like apples, tried to paint portraits in the same spirit. But his pippin-like women are more nearly related to Plato's Ideas than to the Dharma-Body in the hedge. They are Eternity and Infinity seen, not in sand or flower, but in the abstractions of some very superior brand of geometry. Vermeer never asked his girls to look like apples. On the contrary, he insisted on their being girls to the very limit—but always with the proviso that they refrain from behaving girlishly. They might sit or quietly stand but never giggle, never display self-consciousness, never say their prayers or pine for absent sweethearts, never gossip, never gaze enviously at other women's babies, never dirt, never love or hate or work. In the act of doing any of these things they would doubtless become more intensely themselves, but would cease, for that very reason, to manifest their divine essential Not-self. In Blake's phrase, the doors of Vermeer's perception were only partially cleansed. A single panel had become almost perfectly transparent; the rest of the door was still muddy. The essential Not-self could be perceived very clearly in things and in living creatures on the hither side of good and evil. In human beings it was visible only when they were in repose, their minds untroubled, their bodies motionless. In these circumstances Vermeer could see Suchness in all its heavenly beauty—could see and, in some small measure, render it—in a subtle and sumptuous still life. Vermeer is undoubtedly the greatest painter of human still lives. But there have been others, for example, Vermeer's French contemporaries, the Le Nain brothers. They set out, I suppose, to be genre painters; but what they actually produced was a series of human still lives, in which their cleansed perception of the infinite significance of all things is rendered not, as with Vermeer, by subtle enrichment of color and texture, but by a heightened clarity, an obsessive distinctness of form, within an austere, almost monochromatic tonality. In our own day we have had Vuillard, the painter, at his best, of unforgettably splendid pictures of the Dharma-Body manifested in a bourgeois bedroom, of the Absolute blazing away in the midst of some stockbroker's family in a suburban garden, taking tea.
