Today’s Chicago Tribune internet article titled; Weed Themed Gifts are hot for the holidays. How to avoid an awkward Christmas morning, gave advice how to gift marijuana products on Christmas to your friends and relatives. Even though the USA Surgeon General and the CDC, Center for Disease Control, warns against the use of recreational marijuana, nothing about the health and welfare risks about the use was mentioned. Yet, even though laws to require mandatory warning labels have been in existence since 1936 to both warn users and are also a shield to prevent civil suits against sellers. Yet, Illinois State Legislators who promoted the sales of legal recreational marijuana did not make any provisions to warn users of the potential health risks as reported by the CDC. Warnings to alert users of the significant risks of ingesting marijuana, a medically proven significant factor of being a poisonous substance. In addition, there is another medically proven risk factor of 1 in 6 for users under 21, and 1 in 10 over 21, that use of recreational marijuana will make them be susceptible to gateway to become hard core drug addicts. King Solomon A tyrannical ruler practices extortion, but one who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long reign. (Proverb 29:16) A fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes, but a person of understanding delights in wisdom. (Proverb 10:23) What’s My Point? Legalizing recreational marijuana under the belief that it will end criminals in business and add tax revenues to local governments instead is the premise legislators who lack understanding of supply and demand proven business theories as I explained in a previous post. Instead, the law will make a proven poisonous substance more available for more people and the medically proven results of their folly of poisoning themselves for purposes of pleasure only. Meanwhile, as every other State and Country that legalized recreational drugs, a black market of criminal sellers continue and even expand because criminals will still conveniently sell and service their customers a lower price product in their neighborhood communities. My point is, at the very least, the legislators could have easily added that warning labels be affixed to every product to warn what the CDC states of what and why it is not healthy to use recreational marijuana and the potential medical risks associated with it use. For the same reasons as was done for cigarettes, food, and medicine. And it must be okay to use because there are no warning labels to warn users of the harmful effects as proven by medical studies of the CDC. As the above King Solomon wisdom proverbs advised and warned based on his observations 3000 years ago, and for the most part have been ignored by every generation since, there will be rulers or legislators that either lack understanding, or will conspire for personal profit. That may be because for some reason education in the USA teaches every subject under the sun except wisdom advice to understand how to live a long life and avoid repeating the same follies of previous generations. In other words, we Illinois voters are fools. An example of why we are fools is given in a previous post how Illinois legislators planned to legalize marijuana beginning with a referendum to use the money for education. Yet when the law was passed, the amount for education was less than two percent of the estimated 600 million dollars of revenues that were projected potential tax revenue from the sale of legalized recreational marijuana in Illinois. And sadly, King Solomon’s above proverb that inept rulers will not enjoy a long reign does not apply in Illinois because every attempt to date to pass a voter referendum for term limits of legislators is somehow defeated by Illinois legislators and/or Illinois Courts.
