This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census. Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions. For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year. This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. She has made good progress and has had lots of opportunities since she arrived. In my experience the teachers listen and have helped to resolve any issues. I know the school have worked hard to take on feedback from parents to keep improving. There are regular newsletters and they use the phone text system too. Overall, I and my daughter are really happy with the school. “A decent school” 17 October 2016 AUTHOR: ClarkeKent "> I have two children in this school and both are doing well. My daughter has had three amazing teachers who push and encourage her to perform to her capabilities. Both children enjoy going to school, have built great relationships with other children and the staff at the school and I'm very happy that we selected this school for them. There are issues however. Communication has been poor, but the school is aware and I believe they are working on this part. For example Newsletters now have more information and details of important dates. My other problem with the school is it's over emphasis on religious teaching. For a school which has no religious attachment, I feel that they push religion too hard. They invite a church to take assembly every week and they rarely seem to teach anything other than Christianity which disconcerting to me. There is also an early morning non-compulsory pre-school worship which, in my opinion, is unnecessary in a non-religious school. In terms of school events, my daughter has been in a school trip each year. There are school discos, there are events laid on at the end of term for children with 100% attendance and there are a plethora of after school clubs that children may join. “Below Average Attainment Results for Third Year Running.” 13 January 2016 AUTHOR: LauraLane "> Waterwells School has the benefit of a lovely modern new building, and it does look very smart. But don't be fooled by appearances as we all know you can't judge a book from it's cover. I think the main problems with this school are the high numbers of newly qualified inexperienced teachers, and the fact that the Head Teacher is running three primary schools at once. It is run by an academy trust which seems to treat the schooling system as a business rather than a place to nurture children's learning and well being. This school is in its third year since opening but sadly ,pupils attainment levels have not improved at all. It is for this reason that I am now in the process of seeking a better performing school for my two children, as their progress at Waterwells has been very slow, possibly held back by poor teaching. “A New Build School Which Has Much Need For Improvement” 12 January 2016 AUTHOR: JERRYADAMS "> In my opinion this is a poorly run school. Teachers fail to communicate with parents, which leaves parents with no idea of what is going on in the day to day running of the school. There have been many incidents which breach safeguarding policies, for example children left alone in the playground after break time has finished. Staff do not deal well with bullying, instead parents are discouraged from reporting any incidents of bullying. The school has been open for three years but still not yet fully established in terms of organisation. There are no class events such as end of year parties, Christmas parties or any such rewarding celebrations for the children. There is a Harvest Festival each year which lasts for a disappointing 10 minutes, and a Nativity which tends to lack the effort of teachers; no costumes other than a pillowcase for each child to wear! There are no opportunities for parents to participate in school, for guided reading or other such voluntary roles in the classroom. Class trips off the school premises are rare.
