private interpretation, every bonehead his own little pope

judaism.is - debunking the errors of Protestantism, especially the fundamental error of private interpretation that makes every dyslexic with an expurgated Protestant “Bible” his own little pope. And behold a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch, of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge over all her treasures, had come to Jerusalem to adore.  And he was returning, sitting in his chariot, and reading Isaias the prophet.  And the Spirit said to Philip: Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.  And Philip running thither, heard him reading the prophet Isaias. And he said: Thinkest thou that thou understandest what thou readest? Who said: And how can I, unless some man shew me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.” Acts 8:26-31   “Further, by divine and Catholic faith, all those things must be believed at which are contained in the written Word of God and in tradition, and those which are proposed by the church, either in a solemn pronouncement [ex cathedra, extraordinary Magisterium ], or in her ordinary and universal teaching power [a.v.,  “what has always and everywhere been taught,” ordinary Magisterium ], to be believed as a divinely revealed.” Vatican Council, Session III Dogmatic Constitution Concerning the Catholic Faith (April 24, 1870) in Denzinger, Enchiridion Symbolorum, The Sources of Catholic Dogma, §1792   In Protestantism every dyslexic with a censored/abridged/bowdlerized “bible” who neither has at hand nor understands the original texts, who fails to understand what is literal, what is rhetorical, and what is allegorical, imagines himself his own little pope.    the priesthood, papacy, and hierarchy are Scriptural           “Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophesy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood.”1 Timothy 4:14   “ For which cause I admonish thee, that thou stir up the grace of God which is in thee, by the imposition of my hands.” 2 Timothy 1:6   “And when they had ordained to them priests in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, in whom they believed.” Acts 14:22   “Take heed to yourselves, and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” Acts 20:28   “For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and shouldest ordain priests in every city, as I also appointed thee:…” Titus 1:5   “These they set before the apostles; and they praying, imposed hands upon them.”  Acts 6:6   “He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you.  When He had said this, He breathed on them; and He said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost.  Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.” John 20:21-23 As for the papacy and the hierarchy, Jesus founded one Church (singular, not plural, in Matthew 16:18), a visible Church with Divine Rights to govern (Matthew 16:19 & 18:18), teach (Matthew 28:19-20), and sanctify (Matthew 28:18-19; John 20:23). Divinely and logically consistent with His commissions, Jesus founded one Church, singular, with one central authority (Matthew 16:19 & 18:18), a visible society (Mark 4:11), with oneness of doctrine without dissent or heresy (Matthew 12:25, 16:1; John 10:16, 17:20-23; Acts 4:32; Romans 12:5, 16:17; 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 10:17, 11:18-19, 12:12-27, 14:33; 2 Corinthians 12:20; Ephesians 4:3-6; Philippians 1:27, 2:2-3; 1 Timothy 6:3-5; Titus 3:9-10; James 3:16; 2 Peter 2:1) and an organized hierarchy (Acts 1:20, 15:2-6, 20:28, 21:18; Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:1-2, 5:17; Titus 1:7; Hebrews 11:2; 1 Peter 2:25, 5:1), not some do-it-yourself  “spirituality” or invisible every-man-for-himself “church.”   Jesus did not found an anarchy of churches having mutually exclusive doctrines like the 35,000+  sects of Protestantism in which every dyslexic with an interrupted grammar school education and an expurgated Protestant “Bible” gets to make up his own doctrine and be his own little “pope.”   Jesus compared His Church to a number of very visible objects: a body, a kingdom, a sheepfold, a net (Matthew 13:47), a city, a field. Jesus Christ, true God and True Man, Messiah, Second Person of the Holy Trinity, God did not compare His Church with a disorganized rabble of conflicting doctrines and morality.   No, the disparagement of His One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church and the anti-biblical promotion of private interpretation (2 Peter 1:20) is based in the Original Sin of Adam and Eve, that men “might be as gods” (Genesis 3:5). Emulating Lucifer, many men declare “Non serviam.” They will not serve God, but their own traditions. Remember, that was the key judgment against the Pharisees: “…you make void the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition.” (Mark 7:8-9).   St. John the Apostle submitted to 4 popes in his life (St. Peter, St. Linus, St. Anacletus, St. Clement I) without one word against them.   The Church hierarchy was established while the Apostles were still alive. The Apostles who walked and talked face-to-face with Jesus formed and participated in the hierarchy and teaching authority, “the Magisterium.” The Apostles neither rebelled nor spoke against the hierarchy or teaching authority. Roman Emperor Constantine is a favorite shibboleth of anti-Catholics. They spread baseless lies about him corrupting Christ’s one Church with paganism and centralized authority. The hierarchy, sacraments, and dogma were directly from Jesus, continued faithfully by St. Peter heading the Apostles, and preceded Constantine by almost 4 centuries. Constantine only legalized Christianity and defended the Church.  God bless him for that!   The hierarchy and Magisterium are apostolic, not ‘pagan.’ The phony claims of heretics then and now are contradicted by mountains of evidence. St. John the Apostle submitted to 4 popes in his life (St. Peter, St. Linus, St. Anacletus, St. Clement I) without one word against them. St. Clement’s letter in about 95 A.D. exercised his papal authority against a troublesome faction in Corinth. The Corinthian Christians, like the Apostles, respected and obeyed papal authority then and after.   Just as St. Mathias was elected to succeed Judas Iscariot (Acts 1:26),  Linus, Anacletus, Clement, Evaristus, and many others have been elected to succeed Peter.   “Take heed to yourselves, and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” Acts 20:28              the primacy of Peter in Scripture     There is considerable scriptural evidence that St. Peter had primacy over the other Apostles.       St. Peter is mentioned 161 times in Scripture, more than any other Apostle.     St. Peter was the spokesman for the Apostles. Matthew 19:27, Acts 1:15, 2:14     St. Peter led the flock at the birth of the Church on Pentecost. Acts 2:14     The Apostles were referred to as “Peter and they that were with him” Luke 9:32, “Peter and …the rest of the Apostles” Acts 2:37, and “Peter and the apostles.” Acts 5:29     St. Peter was given the authority to forgive sins before the rest of the apostles. Matthew 16:18     St. Peter was always named first, even “the first,” when the apostles were listed. Matthew 10:1-4, Mark 3:16-19, Luke 6:14-16, Acts 1:13     St. John ran ahead of St. Peter to the tomb but upon arriving he stopped and did not go in. St. John waited in deference to St. Peter, and let St. Peter go in first. John 20:4-6     St. Peter  alone of the Apostles stepped out of the boat in the middle of the storm, even though they were all afraid they would die in the storm. Matthew 14:29     Our Lord commissioned St. Peter to “feed my lambs...tend my sheep... feed my sheep.” John 21:15-17 Our Lord had promised the spiritual supremacy to St. Peter at Matthew 16:19; and here in John 21:15-17  Jesus fulfilled that promise, by charging him with the superintendency of all his sheep, without exception; and consequently of his whole flock, that is, of his one and only Church.     “Simon, Simon! Remember Satan has asked for you [plural in the original Greek], to sift you all like wheat. But I have prayed for you [singular in the original Greek, hence Peter alone] that your faith may never fail. You [singular in the original Greek, hence Peter alone] in turn must strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:31-32            A side issue — Despite the historical evidence (scroll down to “Activity and death in Rome”), many deluded Protestants deny that St. Peter was ever in Rome at all.      see the hierarchy from the first days of the Apostles   History of the Catholic Church, Vol. 1 (of 8) Period of Early Expansion by Rev. Fernand Mourret (translator: Rev. Newton Thompson)   The full 8-volume set can be read or downloaded here.      incompetent exegesis of “Cephas” (rock)   “Bible Believers” use two stratagems to deny the papacy:   They pretend that Jesus meant to found a Church on a stone at His feet. This is contradicted by the Greek etymology: “Cephas” (rock) is usually a feminine form in Greek, but the Scriptures use the masculine form, so must be a reference to a man. When their etymological error is exposed, they resort to the claim that Jesus was referring to Himself, but Jesus Himself explicitly calls Simon Peter “Cephas”:   “And he brought him to Jesus. And Jesus looking upon him, said: Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is interpreted Peter.” John 1:42   Further, St. Paul refers to St. Peter as “Cephas” 7 times:  1 Corinthians 1:12, 3:22, 9:5 15:5; Galatians 2:9, 2:11, 2:14.        the Catholic Church is modeled on the Davidic Kingdom in the Old Testament   “[T]he Catholic Church is modeled on the Davidic Kingdom in the Old Testament.  That’s why Jesus is called the “Son of David” so many times in the New Testament.…   “[T[he Catholic Church is the Kingdom of God on earth, the new Israel (Jesus said in Matthew 21:43 that he was taking the Kingdom away from Israel, and giving it to a nation that will produce the fruits of it - namely, the Catholic Church), and is modeled after David's Kingdom, with a huge temple (the Vatican), a prime minister (our Pope), a sacred tabernacle containing the Ark of the Covenant (our tabernacle containing the Eucharist), officers who take care of the kingdom (our Cardinals and bishops), high priests (our priests), a Passover Meal (our Eucharist), and a Queen Mother (The Blessed Virgin Mary).   “There are so many parallels between King David and Jesus that it is impossible for the astute Bible scholar to miss them: David was born in Bethlehem, as was Jesus. David started his Kingship at age 30, the same age Jesus started his ministry on earth. David, a shepherd, was anointed by Samuel in 1 Samuel 16, and the Spirit of the Lord descended on David.  Jesus, the good shepherd, was the Messiah, which means “the anointed one,” and the Spirit of God descended on Jesus during his Baptism in the River Jordan. Again in 1 Samuel 16, David was responsible for exorcising the evil spirit from Saul.  Jesus also cast out demons. David was betrayed by one of his trusted advisers, Ahithophel, in 2 Samuel 18, who hanged himself as a result.  Jesus was betrayed by one of his own apostles, Judas, who also hanged himself. In 2 Samuel 15, David goes up to the Mount of Olives, crying.  Jesus also wept at the Mount of Olives. David wrote the Psalms, 1000 years before Jesus was born, and Psalm [21 (Catholic numbering)] was appropriately quoted by Jesus from the cross... David was the King of Israel. Jesus is the King of Kings who sits on David’s throne.…” http://catholicbible101.com/thechurchthenewisrael.htm        the rich Church   “And when Jesus was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper, There came to him a woman having an alabaster box of precious ointment, and poured it on his head as he was at table. And the disciples seeing it, had indignation, saying: To what purpose is this waste? For this might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. And Jesus knowing it, said to them: Why do you trouble this woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For the poor you have always with you: but me you have not always. For she in pouring this ointment upon my body, hath done it for my burial. Amen I say to you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which she hath done, shall be told for a memory of her.” Matthew 26:6-13   Like Judas Iscariot who complained about how the Apostles’ money was spent, Protestants complain about how the Apostolic successors have spent money so that “this gospel shall be preached in the whole world.”   Are there heinous examples of greedy Churchmen? Yes, but like the woman who anointed Jesus’ head with precious oil from an expensive alabaster box, the Church’s resources have ensured that “this gospel shall be preached in the whole world.” That is precisely why the whole world, including over one 1 BILLION Catholics, has heard that gospel.      the necessity of belonging to the one Church founded by Jesus Christ   “And he is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he may hold the primacy:…” Colossians 1:18   “And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be condemned.” Mark 16:15-16   “Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ.  Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord:  Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body.  Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things.  Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it: That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life:  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish.  So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife, loveth himself.  For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, as also Christ doth the church:  Because we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” Ephesians 5:21-30   “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15   “And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.” Matthew 16:18-19   “Let us be glad and rejoice, and give glory to him; for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife [The Church is the Bride of Christ] hath prepared herself.” Apocalypse (Revelation) 19:7   “He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.” Luke 10:16   “Not forsaking our assembly, as some are accustomed; but comforting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching. For if we sin willfully after having the knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins,  But a certain dreadful expectation of judgment, and the rage of a fire which shall consume the adversaries.” Hebrews 10:25-27 [Commentary from the Douay-Rheims translation: “If we sin willfully”: He speaks of the sin of willful apostasy from the known truth; after which, as we can not be baptized again, we can not expect to have that abundant remission of sins, which Christ purchased by his death, applied to our souls in that ample manner as it is in baptism: but we have rather all manner of reason to look for a dreadful judgment; the more because apostates from the known truth, seldom or never have the grace to return to it.”]
