Several lodges met at this hall including the 'University Lodge'. This means a lodge for members of the university. The emblem of the University Lodge includes, or possibly even consists entirely of, something like a skull and cross bones. In Ernst Röhm's expressive phrase, the Nazis were out to lift the world off its hinges, to destroy the power both of the proletariat and the middle classes and to found a new order of society to accord with the commands of the demonic voices which spoke through Hitler.
