Read on to learn more about Ezekiel’s wheel and what they saw. The Book of Ezekiel describes itself as the words of the Ezekiel ben-Buzi, a priest living in exile in the city of Babylon between 593 and 571 BC. In this book, Ezekiel, a prophet, describes a flying chariot. It contained wheels within wheels and was powered by angels. Scholars have varying opinions on the meaning of the verse. However, others believe that it referenced visitors from other worlds. Ezekiel’s Wheel The reference to Ezekiel’s wheel occurs in the book of Ezekiel Chapter 1: Verses 15-21. 15 As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces. 16 This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like topaz, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. 17 As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not change direction as the creatures went. 18 Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around. 19 When the living creatures moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the living creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose. 20 Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise along with them because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. 21 When the creatures moved, they also moved; when the creatures stood still, they also stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. Believers in UFOs attribute the text to the premise that ancient peoples could not explain the world around them. Hence, we get superstitions, legends, and myths from their attempt at explanation. For example, the story of the cyclops seems to originate from the discovery of a rhinoceros skull. The people mistook the opening for the horn as a third eye. Therefore, a story arose out of the explanation for the indentation. NASA Observation In late February, NASA’s Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) captured a glimpse of a wheel-like structure. The size of the object and its path across the sun led observers to conclude that the observatory captured an alien craft. However, not everyone agreed that it was Ezekiel’s wheel. UFO researcher Scott Brando argued that what people saw were reflections. He stated that it was a “recurring image artifact caused by internal reflections of a planet.” In an unprecedented move, NASA responded to the claim. “The strange-looking geometrical “object” is actually an internal reflection of the planet Venus within the telescope optics. This effect has been seen many times before.” (NASA 2020) NASA’s explanation makes sense and debunks the flying chariot from the Bible. However, what we do not know is what Ezekiel did see. He indeed had an extensive vocabulary and aptly described other images he saw. Did Ezekiel see aliens in strange spacecraft? Or did he see angels flying on wheels in the skies above? We may never know.
