Chernobyl Disaster – Conspiracy Theories Myths

The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that happened in  1986, which is said to be one of the worst nuclear disasters in history. It occured in the no.4 reactor in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant when running the safety test on an RBMK type nuclear reactor. It happened near the city of Pripyat in the North of Ukraninan SSR. There are several conspiracy theories regarding the disaster that have aroused from the information given by the people.

• • Conspiracy Theory – The black bird of Chernobyl:

    Fact: No, Not true

    The victims and workers of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster state that they witnessed the black human-like winged creature with bright red eyes. This bird was reportedly seen at the chernobyl plant on the day of the accident. The person who has seen the creature was said to have nightmares and threatening phone calls. Even though the humanly and bird-like creature cannot call, many believed that it did so.

  

  • Conspiracy Theory – Animal mutations:

    Fact: No, it isn’t

    Even twenty years later, there are many chernobyl nuclear disaster conspiracies that gained attention from the people. Animals growing in that region are said to have multi heads, multi eyes and but in reality the animals had small brains, cataracts, tumours and sterility due to the nuclear radiation. Many animals stopped reproducing and died because of thyroid damage.

  

  • Conspiracy Theory – Russia and Chernobyl nuclear disaster:

    Fact: No, it isn’t

    As The US and Soviet Union were not in good terms at the time of the explosion, Russia’s representative states that the enemy intelligence service was present at the station at the time of the disaster. Russia worked on HBO’s Chernobyl that is telecasted on its own TV show where he said that the CIA agent  sabotaged the reactor.

  • Conspiracy Theory – Cover up by the Government:

    Fact: No, Not true

    A massive disaster usually attracts many conspiracy theories with their own  government. However, unlike other cases this is said to be attracted by the Soviet Government. According to the conspiracy theorists, the Duga known as Russian woodpecker needed to be eliminated without much trace. So to eliminate the expensive failure, it is said the entire chernobyl facility is burned out.

  • Conspiracy Theory – Affected by HIV like condition:

    Fact: No, it isn’t

    The Chernobyl disaster made a huge impact on the health of the people in the region around 30 km wide. There are many health related problems in the region of  East and Central Europe. The entire region is said to have a huge impact due to this disaster. As there may be a rise of new diseases, the conspiracy theory that spread widely was that chernobyl was linked to HIV like condition. This spread without any evidence and had an impact that discourages business from other countries.

  • Conspiracy Theory – Alien:

    Fact: No, Not true

    After the conspiracies of aliens and UFO in the Roswell crash, it also got into the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Generally the aliens and extraterrestrials are considered to be the one that cause the incident, but in this case they are said to be the one to prevent the further disaster from happening. Mikhail Varitsky stated that he saw a flash of light above the exposed reactor on the night of the incident.

    False: KGB has no role in chernobyl nuclear disaster

  • Conspiracy Theory – CIA – US spy organization orchestrated Chernobyl disaster due to the Cold war.

    Fact: No, Not true

    Some news channels claimed that the CIA was behind the disaster. Investigations after the incident pointed to human error and confirmed it was an accident. There is no evidence the CIA was behind this disaster.

  • Conspiracy Theory – UFO sightings before the disaster.

    Fact: No, Not true

    There are some fake eye witness reports saying that they saw some UFOs flying before the onset of the disaster. There is no valid evidence to back this up. This theory is busted.

    Fake: This is an imaginary story by some conspiracy theorists.

    The Chernobyl disaster happened because of the curse of Rabbi Borukhom Tverskoy. Another fake conspiracy theory.

  • Conspiracy Theory – Duga radar station

    Fact: No, Not true

    The Duga at Chernobyl was the focus of the 2015 documentary film, The Russian Woodpecker, by Chad Gracia. The film includes interviews with the commander of the Duga, Vladimir Musiets, as well as the Vice-Commander, the Head of the Data Center, and others involved in building and operating the radar. The documentary, which won numerous awards, also includes drone video footage of the array and handheld video footage of the surroundings as well as a climb to the top by the cinematographer, Artem Ryzhykov. The film also proposes a conspiracy theory that the Chernobyl disaster was engineered to cover up failures in the radar’s design
