… or perhaps he’s just a hapless rube, unable to understand the significance of his own actions.

The pope is in Chile. Yesterday he gave a speech bemoaning and asking forgiveness for the church’s sordid past of sexual child abuse and promising to “take steps” to prevent further abuses.

Then today he said mass with Bishop Juan Barros Madrid who has been accused of protecting Fernando Karadima, a former Chilean priest defrocked for abusing kids.

When asked about demonstrators against Bishop Barros, Francis called them “leftists” and “stupid.”

Nope. I was right the first time. He is a fraud. In addition, he’s a liar. The Pope’s comments about Bishop Juan Barros include:

The day they bring me proof against Bishop Barros, then I will speak. There is not a single piece of proof against him. Everything is slander. Is this clear?

And

No one has come forward, they haven’t provided any evidence for a judgment.

As it turns out, the Pope does have evidence. He has a letter from Juan Carlos Cruz, one of the victims, that graphically describes occasions where he was abused while Bishop Barros not only watched but participated. Cruz further claims that there are dozens more who can testify about being abused in Barros presence.

Francis has fabricated an aura of being a compassionate and just prelate. It’s a myth. He’s as bad as all of them.
